Not the best analogy...professional sports are incredibly different than a desk engineering job. Physical and mental health come into play to a much greater degree. And it’s not like Lowe completely stopped playing. She played AU and has been training in the USA longer than most. Also not insane she decided to not play a covid season because no one really knew what that was going to look like. She’ll be in the conversation for sure. I truly think VNL will help the coaching staff make some decisions about who’s body can hold up for the olympics and who’s playing well. Come up with a better analogy then. When evaluating someone for a role, commitment to that role should be a criteria. This is true for most/all professional roles, including those in sports. We are evaluating opposites for the US Olympics team in Tokyo. Thus, commitment to that role should be a criteria. I think you just have a different definition of commitment than a few people on here do. There are definitely some reasons I don't think Lowe is a lock for Tokyo, but commitment to the sport isn't really one of them. Also, there are quite a few athletes for other sports who have taken a year off after an olympic cycle and then returned to go to the next olympics. Just off the top of my head, figure skaters have done this a lot in the past... |

Just off the top of my head, figure skaters have done this a lot in the past... I agree...I mean Matt Anderson took this past professional season off right before the Olympics. "Commitment" isn't the issue. I frankly just wasn't impressed enough by what I saw from Lowe at the World Cup and in the AU. Hopefully she proves me wrong, because Drews isn't going to get it done every single match and either JT/Lowe will need to step up and provide consistency. I think this VNL roster (if they release it *eye roll*) will tell us a lot about where the coaching staff thinks they are. |

Italy has announced their 17 players roster: S: Bosio, Battistoni, Morello. OPP: Nwakalor, Mingardi. OH: D'Odorico, Melli, Guerra, Piva, Omoruy. MB: Mazzaro, Bonifacio, Lubian, Squarcini, Furlan. L: Fersino, De Bortoli. Is there still the rule where the host country gets to be in the Final 4 regardless? (Used to be final 6) Is there an official link for this? |
