Among the 4 who is easiest to stop? That's mbh. Hmmm, but you can think of Egonu, Zhu, Bosko aside from being world class terminators, they're also the best at scoring out of system. That's their role in their clubs and on their national teams. In a way, their national teams are centered around them. That is not MBH role, so I don't think she's comparable (Haak has that role in Vakifbank). USA is very system based. We have a good set of 4 very good outside hitters who are all world class and highly sought after. I always thought it was Hill/MBH and Larson/Robinson pairing in terms of skill set and who would sub each other. But it seems like each can hold their own now (and are not necessarily OH1 and OH2). Middle blocker and opposite could be very valuable come Olympic time. Strategy wise, seems like USA coaching staff wanted the setters to do different things in each match. We will see. Aside from China, we may have the strongest team/unit. |

I like the format from this year’s VNL, but I can understand why it may not be popular with some of the stakeholders. This year’s format gave non-top 10 teams a great opportunity to play top-ranked teams and a lot of exposure for the players. With the new format, the “bottom” teams will play less games and won’t get to play some of the better competition (which would help with their ranking if they took sets off a good team). The rich get richer, and the poor stay poor - so to speak…(the best teams get better and the lower-ranked teams don’t have as much opportunity to improve). |
