I would rather anyone win besides China and Brazil who have combined won the past 4 crowns. I want new blood at the top. I'd watch a China-Brazil final. So would I. I'm just not rooting for either team. I'm rooting for Serbia and the USA. Dark horse, Turkey (for a medal) because I have really enjoyed watching their arrival among the top CEV teams this quad. Guidetti truly is a wizard.

Honestly USA, China and Brazil have been at the top for quite some time. Italy, Russia and Serbia are pretenders anymore, imo. None of them have shown sustained success over the past 20 years. Russia has been especially disappointing knowing their history in the sport.

On one hand, Guidetti is amazing at training and developing players.
On the other hand, when things are not going his way he acts up like a child who doesn't get the ice cream he wants.

Russia has been especially disappointing knowing their history in the sport. Their failure to embrace the current "literal" speed that the game is evolving into, has been my greatest disappointment. That, and I cannot condone/support a federation that is soooo caught up in doping. That's gross.

I love to cackle at his little tantrums. He's funny haha.

Russia has been especially disappointing knowing their history in the sport. Every team has ups and downs, even USA, China, and Brazil the last decade.
Italy has been decent throughout, they won in 2002, 2007, and 2011 and had medals in 2018
They just choke at the olympics. Every. Single. Time.
And Serbia (technically Serbia and Montenegro) had a bronze at 2006.

I think it's safe to say that Guidetti is right up there with JLP. He may be even better at developing talent.

Even so, she didn’t really carry Ecza to a medal on her own. She’s great but can she really ba a successful one-woman team? Nope, Only Zhu Ting in Rio quad, and Egonu (maybe) these days. But we'll have to see on the latter. The thing with Italy is that their entire A team is skipping VNL, they could've at least send their bench/substitutes. L. Bosetti who was a big part of their success isn't even on the training list which likely means she's not in form for Tokyo. Her sister is in better shape and should fill in for her nicely, but they still need time to adjust communication with her and Sylla on court. Chirichella is no longer captain, she's shaking in her boots. I hope she wasn't thinking that those braids she wore last month was going to give her Egonu powers.

In theory KP can play either of 2 positions. SWP is only an OH with suspect passing. But neither of them are going to Tokyo. K well you obviously didn’t watch international volleyball this season. SWP played both pins in a top 2 league in the world and only got outperformed by Boskovic and maybe Haak WIth the due respect to Wilhite's good season, she can't be compared to Bella Haak.

Yeah usually it's 2 copies of the same team in a 14-person roster, and NONE of the bench made it (unlike China in 2019 VNL finals).

Chirichella has been captain all quad long. Plus Sylla for captain is...a choice. Although admittedly I don't know much about their team dynamic, I usually would give captaincy to someone consistent. But maybe the Fahr stans on this forum will be proven right?

McKenzie Adams should've been in the gym. She's good but Alexandra Frantti is much better, IMO. A physical outside like Ali who can destroy high balls could be so useful. Not even considered, meh...
