Week 3 is pretty easy too. I've bolded the matches I think would be competitive (DR, BRA, TUR, POL, RUS, CHN) Serbia won’t be a complete pushover especially with Drca, Busa, Bjelica, Rasić and M. Popović on the roster. Passing will be a mess but it always is with this team. Also, everyone is so quick to write off the Dutch. They have all of their best players on the wide roster, including DeKruijf, and a returning “new” coach. They also have young talent that is looking pretty good these days. I could honestly see them and Russia making the top 4. Parubets has recovered and is back with the team training. Russia will also be at full strength. This will definitely be the most solid iteration of this tournament we have seen since it’s inception IMO. Don’t forget, Italy could use the 6 substitutions in week 3 and bring on some of the A team. Hell, their B/C team will likely push/defeat some of the full strenght teams. They have some good depth. Week 2 is not a cupcake week. Week 3 won’t be either. Germany is improving vastly. It will all come down to who is setting since Hanke retired. Kästner and Imodu are both solid options. I just wanted to share some thoughts. 😊 Hmm, good points! Didn't know Parubets has recovered.
TBH I disregarded Italy and Serbia because everyone knows their A-team is going to the olympics... personally I'm doubtful that Mazzanti will put Egonu & co into the VNL.
But it's true that the matches with Italy and Serbia will be interesting in their own right.

Hold up. I don’t see Gabi for Brazil or DeKruijf for the Netherlands on the rosters post at the top of the thread. Are they not going to be present? Gabi will be there. @avid, can you update the roster? Tandara should be listed as Opp. De Kruijf is not joining the national team this season. |

She's she volleyball taken its toll on her body and mind. She said she needs a mental break (but doesn't want to be compared with Lonneke, she's still playing)
She'll make a full decision next summer. (which isn't the worst thing. Give the dutch time to invest in the younger gen)

Ugh. I get my second Moderna shot on the 19th. I'm dreading it. I had slight fatigue and body aches with the first one and my arm hurt for days afterwards. I cannot fathom athletes getting it during a tournament. Oof. That's gonna be rough. acetaminophen and Benadryl (for sleeping) will be your best friends Volleytalk medical advice. Oh, goody. |
