Real quick question concerning Japan? What happened to setters Sato, Tominaga and Miyash*ta? Did they all retire? Tashiro was on the squad at the 2018 WCH's but Seki and Momii are green. Other than setting, the rest of Japan's roster is rock solid and could make some waves IMO. Rumor has it that coach Nakada dropped Sato because she wasn't seen as making the cut, perfomance-wise. Or maybe she just wanted her to prep more to get up to form before playing her in the VNL... I heard that she had a serious injury and didn't recover in time. I think ACL or something.

Poland is playing friendly matches against Bulgaria. The first match is on this Youtube (each set is a different video). They're playing right now as well (don't have a US stream)
Poland - Bulgaria 3:1 Poland: Smarzek 30, Łukasik 10, Alagierska 9, Efimienko 9, Górecka 8, Różański 8, Krajewska 2, Łazowska 1, Stenzel (L), Jagła (L) Where was this Smarzek with Novara?
Also, if Smarzek can play well, Poland will be a good test too for the VNL. She was going through a divorce at the same time. They only got married a couple years ago too if I'm not mistaken.

We have news from Serbia and Poland about the "small details"
From Serbia They have to arrive by the 22nd and get a PCR test. They have to isolate for a minimum for 16 hours (cannot leave rooms) Hotel and the playing halls are the only buildings they are allowed to be in.
They will be separated from the kitchen/food preparers.
There will be two warm up courts and six for practicing.
Bench players/coaches will be in masks. Liberos/middles will be masked when not playing. No anthems, no greetings, no change of sides. No line judges, no ball collectors, no one to wipe the floors. (evidently two staff? non players will be assigned the ball/floor duties) No locker rooms for practice, they'll shower in their hotels.
Only one scout may attend other matches. They can rent a pool or beach, but it has to be done in advance. Outside food must be approved and properly sanitized.
Masks are going to be required (might be flexible) and changed every 4 hours.
Covid tests every 4 days. The bubble is strictly for players/staff. They are not for the kitchen staff, cleaners, etc.
From Poland Teams get 3 hours in the gym/practice courts every day.
They cannot train at other facilities.
They have specific times for when they are allowed to go outside (for a walk) Players of the same position cannot stay in the same room together (2 OHs cannot be roommates) (they want to try to ensure all matches are played and not cancelled due to losing a position group)

I actually like this rule. It's not super difficult to manage and it'll hopefully ensure that (as OP said) no position group is lost. Other than that, I can't wait to watch one of the USA technical coaches running around wiping the floor lol.

Some teams (maybe teams without a lot of depth) may want to be strategic with their roommate pairings as well….don’t pair two starters (of different positions) together.

These are ridiculous. i dont think anything is particularly ridiculous... I think the mask rule is a little (just because of the nature of their environment) but eh, whatever appeases them/FIVB/the Italian govt.

Pro teams have played in Europe all spring while switching sides, having ball shaggers, etc. Right? Outside food has to be approved? Vaccinated people can’t leave the bubble?

I am curious now, how do Serbia and Poland know so much and we don't?
