You can tell Winzer is ex-Next Gen. That team is young. Still disappointed we wont see Brisebois (for whatever reason) lol I’m disappointed too. Tbh, she’s probably the best all around OH left for Canada until Bailey comes back. It’s kinda weird, a lot of the players from Brisebois’ generation didn’t seem to pan out (Cassault, Carpentier, Wendel, Belanger).

I think ball control will be an issue. Aside from having Gray as a primary passer, Canada will have a relatively inexperienced libero playing. This is Snape’s first summer with the national team, and Bujan got a bit of experience in 2019 (NORCECA I think). King is a probably better setter than any player that has come through the program in a while, and she keeps improving so that’s good. Van Ryk has the potential to be a really good opposite for Canada, I didn’t follow her too much this past pro season other than Champions League, but she had one really good round of matches later in the season. Apparently she had been injured during the first round of the 4th leg, which saw her not starting. Altogether, I’d say the team has decent offense. We all know what Gray and Van Ryk can do. Gray thrives with a faster set and unless the passing is above average I don’t think the faster sets will be located super well. This VNL will get the team good experience and I really feel that they’ll improve over this next quad. I see a lot of similarity to a team like Serbia in terms of makeup. Their passing sucks, when it's there they can feed their good middles but they usually have to ride their OH1 and OPP OOS and in-transition. Obviously, Serbia is vastly superior player-for-player to pretty much all of Canada so they make it work and Canada will probably try to play faster, but I'm saying that we'll probably see a similar look in terms of what their players are doing.

Brazil got their first shot. I forgot about the DR. They got theirs too (or at least some of them did. This was back in March)
I have doubts about Germany and the smaller Euro countries. The IOC has been working with each country's OC to get vaccines (Brazil got theirs through the IOC/Brazil's OC). I dont know how much general access Germany or like the Netherlands would have.
vaccine isn't magic that makes the covid go away anyways (that would be bleach lol)
It needs ~1 month after 2nd dose for the human body to adjust to "full immunity levels" and even that isn't a guarantee against infection, only a very large probability of not needing to go to the ICU.
Didn't thailand get vaccinated (or were in the middle of vaccination) when their entire training team got covid?
as far as i know, the Thai team got the 1st vaccine dose on April 29th, and were tested after, so they almost all were confirmed positive, maybe because of that. The federation contacted Fivb but received another chance, some of the reasons are Thai tv and fans (they are huge, and were claiming the Thai bubble was not really safe and efficient). The team got the 2nd dose last May 14th, and i think now is in quarantine for 14 days to be allowed to go to VNL after Week 3. The veterans are replacing them.

Canada’s middles can provide a lot of offense if the passing is there. I think we’ll see a quicker tempo for sure. I just don’t want to see Hancock unleash her serve on Canada! 😳

Since there is no relegation this year, I think that if Canada can get Bailey back next year combined with their experience from this year, it can save them from relegation at next year’s VNL. It’s an optimistic outlook, but if KYK is done with Korea after this year, then I can see them being relegated. I think they’re a challenger team anyways, tbh I’m not sure lol

tbh the relegation system doesn't make sense. all teams should have the risk of relegation

Agreed. But the Asian teams are all major TV markets so they have to stay safe.

Its Canada, DR, Poland, and Belgium ughhh that’s annoying. I hate that only challenger teams can be relegated. On the men’s side Canada is only a “challenger” team even though they’re just as good or better than half the main teams. Also, the Netherlands, Korea and Thailand are going to take big hits next quad. There’s a chance that all the challenger teams may potentially be better than them next year.

None of the challenger teams are ever going to be a big TV market for FIVB Or not a team good enough to consistently be at the tournament: USA

So we’ll see if they can become a core team taking the Netherland’s place. But yeah as long as it’s about money, even if Canada became good enough they wouldn’t become a core team then

Belgium's putting together a team. Herbots, Van Gestel, and Grobelna all see serious playing time with their clubs and I think they're all in the Italian League too this next season. I thought their setter was pretty decent too. This relegation system is definitely unfair though.
