In general, if this bubble gets us at least 18+ matches of volleyball for each team, I’m for it. If the FIVB does it right, it should work. Besides there are MUCH worse places to be in a bubble than Rimini, Italy:) I mean, the above post says they can only go outside for a walk at scheduled times. It doesn't matter where you are if you can't leave your hotel room. Hopefully the hotel rooms have windows and the view is nice

I had to do it on a lap top and use Microsoft Edge and not Chrome. Then I was able to sign up.

Weird. Also bump if you haven't gotten your subscription yet. The early bird discount ends tomorrow.

I forgot about the DR. They got theirs too (or at least some of them did. This was back in March) The media was there and everything! (That's Rivera, who was the first one to receive it that day). The women's volleyball team were the first group of athletes in the country to receive vaccines.

Canada is already practicing the bubble protocol in Italy (they aren’t in Rimini yet, but close). They have a more senior player paired with a newer player (of different positions) and they can go out to the beach or ride bikes outside, etc. with their roommate. They sit at the same table for meals with roommate etc. They are obviously together for weights and practice, but masked up. It seems to be going okay….not really that hard to follow. I'm certainly not up to date.. what's the current status on Canada? I think setting + not having the best ball control on the pins have really been their bigger weaknesses, are there reasons to believe those have improved? Bailey's injury obviously took a toll there. I did catch some of King in AU and based on that I didn't think she was too bad, but maybe I was overly critical in the past. Did they ever try Gray at OPP? I know I've seen Van Ryk on both pins before.

I know I've seen Van Ryk on both pins before. Ball control will still likely be an issue. Gray will still play on the left and VanRyk on the right. King should be the starting setter, but she‘s improved from 2019 which was her debut with the National Team. The starting libero from 2019 retired so we will see a new libero debut with the senior national team. The OH2 position is still up for grabs with Bailey not in the mix. Decent players, but need more experience at the senior national level. Overall, with Gray and Cross, and then VanRyk and Maglio (now in their 3rd summer with the team), and King (in her second), I would say the team is still trending up. This year’s VNL will be great experience for a fairly young team. There is a new coaching staff since Black’s departure (I was hoping he would take them to the VNL, but he had conflicts with school). Not a big name coach, but we’ll see how she does (she coached the NextGen team previously).

You can tell Winzer is ex-Next Gen. That team is young.
Still disappointed we wont see Brisebois (for whatever reason)

This is Snape’s first summer with the national team, and Bujan got a bit of experience in 2019 (NORCECA I think). King is a probably better setter than any player that has come through the program in a while, and she keeps improving so that’s good. Van Ryk has the potential to be a really good opposite for Canada, I didn’t follow her too much this past pro season other than Champions League, but she had one really good round of matches later in the season. Apparently she had been injured during the first round of the 4th leg, which saw her not starting. Altogether, I’d say the team has decent offense. We all know what Gray and Van Ryk can do. Gray thrives with a faster set and unless the passing is above average I don’t think the faster sets will be located super well. This VNL will get the team good experience and I really feel that they’ll improve over this next quad.

Tbh, she’s probably the best all around OH left for Canada until Bailey comes back. It’s kinda weird, a lot of the players from Brisebois’ generation didn’t seem to pan out (Cassault, Carpentier, Wendel, Belanger).

Their passing sucks, when it's there they can feed their good middles but they usually have to ride their OH1 and OPP OOS and in-transition. Obviously, Serbia is vastly superior player-for-player to pretty much all of Canada so they make it work and Canada will probably try to play faster, but I'm saying that we'll probably see a similar look in terms of what their players are doing.
