Zehra's their best MB and arguably their most consistent player in the IOQTs. Turkey needs her. Eda says hello. Eda is the emotional leader of this team.
OK fine, she was best MB in the CEV qualification tournament. I don't remember anything from that tournament when I made my comment

She took this head shot from Goncharova and still continued to play.

I just want to sleep and then when i wake up it's the 1st match of vnl. Can't wait and see our girls play again for NT after 2 yrs!
Exciting it is because our vets and new will be playing together and they are almost complete (if not all)!
I hope coaches will devide the matches and all players will have the same exposure. But okay maybe more for new players. 😁

I love that this thread has almost 100 pages already and the tournament has not even started yet.💙

@avid , Malova dropped from the Russian roster. Not sure why. Perhaps she is a Tokyo lock and Busato wanted to let her rest/sub her in later in the tournament?

Precisely. Unless they have some secret ingredients that gives them really good confidence of getting on the podium at Tokyo, this is pretty questionable as strategies go. The secret ingredient is EgonuVolleyball is more than just one member. I think Italy has taken a big risk here.

I honestly think stacked national teams at the top will put up a better fight than stacked Turkish or Italian teams do against her in the domestic leagues . She's incredible but so is full strength China and USA. I do too, but Italy's more than just Egonu. De Gennaro and L. Bosetti are excellent floor defenders. Sylla/Pietrini are decent OH1s (although the latter's reception is not that good)
I was looking at China's matches with Italy and one of the reasons for the 2018 WCh SF loss was the inability to control Sylla (compared to 2019 VNL when she went off)
And them not playing together in the NT for a prolonged period won't help though.

Am I the only one who thinks that this Italian team could over perform?
I think this is their best line up:
S: Bosio, Battistoni OH: Guerra, D'Odorico, Omoruyi, Melli MB: Lubian, Bonifacio, Mazzaro, Squarcini OPP: Mingardi, Nwakalor L: Fersino, De Bertoli
Best starters are in BOLD.
That group could honestly push most of the teams in this competition. Bosio runs a pretty fast offense and really elevated Chieri this season. Plus her coach is the head coach of this team for the VNL. Several of her Chieri teammates are also on this roster.
I think several teams will end up starting weaker line-ups against them and really struggle to win those scenarios. We will likely see many of Italy's matches either be blow outs FOR ITALY or go 5 sets. I don't think they will beat USA, Brazil, Turkey or China (at full strength) but I think they could topple Russia, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Poland and the rest of the competition if not taken seriously.

I'm also going to make a stretch here and argue that his young Dutch team could also make some noise. I honestly think that they rode Sloetjes (who was in rapid decline) and other veterans like Dijkema and Balkestein for too long. Plak or Buijs should play at opposite since they both are atrocious at passing but have the biggest arms on the team. I would start Daalderop and M. Jasper on the left and keep Schoot at Libero. That might actually improve their passing enough to be in the conversation. Bongaerts is fully capable of running the offense and I think that Lohuis and either Baijens or de Zwart are fully capable and lethal middles when in system. de Zwart is 6'8"!!!! I wonder how quick she is moving laterally?
