I'm pretty sure that Washington is a solid enough serving, blocking, and OOS terminating team where if they are playing lights out, Kentucky doesn't have to be playing poorly for Washington to still win. Both teams can play well and it be competitive and Washington still win. I respectfully disagree. If both teams are playing to their potential Kentucky will win. UK is the best passing team in the country so if anyone can handle the huskies service pressure it’s them. Plus if UK stays in system most of the night I don’t think the Washington middles are fast enough to close an in system Lilley conducted offense. That being said if UK does have a passing breakdown that big husky block can be absolutely brutal and would definitely open the door for Washington to take the match. My main point here being if both teams play well I think Kentucky has just too much talent. Well, you distinctly said that Washington plays lights out and Kentucky is playing "poorly" for Washington to win, not both teams to their potential. I agree that if both teams play to their optimum potential, Kentucky has too many weapons. What I disagree with is the assertion that Kentucky must play poorly for Washington to win. I think Kentucky can have an average to above average side out/passing/transition game (which is play probably still good enough to beat most teams) and if Washington is playing lights out, Washington can win. If both teams are playing lights out, then I agree, Kentucky wins, but, again, that's not what you said first.

A average/poor Kentucky match lead them to sweeping Purdue Monday night but I can agree to this. I think Washington when playing well is better than Purdue.

The Pac12 homer in me wants a UW win. I don't think that will be the case, but hope springs eternal.

Didn't you say recently that the Kentucky/Purdue match was a blow out? Are you saying now that Kentucky wasn't playing up to their potential against Purdue?

That was the worst match Lilley has played all year and Tealer really struggled. Though things did start turning around and they didn’t play like horribly. Just not up to standard. Purdue just played worse and was mentally checked out after the second set.

While I'd obviously love a husky win, I'm already at peace with a loss. My expectation for this season was way below what the Huskies have done. Like Ohio State, Washington has played a ton of matches that could have gone either way. A few errant serves or miscues here and there and this final four team doesn't even make the tournament or advance past the 2nd round. This teams' results have already wildly exceeded my expectations. Covid notwithstanding, EMP came into the season hurt, we lost our leading scorer and an injury prone (Hoffman) player becomes our new L1, no elite heir apparent libero, suspect backup setting, limited depth for the front line. A lot of things could have gone wrong this season for Washington, and yet so many things have gone right. I'm content for the season, so a loss isn't going to be that defeating for me. Losing to Kentucky in the national semifinals is ok. I only hope that the Huskies can give the Cats a good match, and win or lose, feel like this asterisks covid season was worth it.

As a Florida graduate, and now a Lexington resident, I’ve had the opportunity to have a unique perspective of Kentucky volleyball. Kentucky, like all other SEC teams, has always hated Florida because they were sick of how successful they were and all the recognition they received. Their level of effort and energy in matches used to be noticeably different in matches against Florida than ones against other opponents. Years back, they started getting some success with recruiting and really started to build a program which changed that attitude from “we want to beat Florida” to “we’re going to beat Florida.” Once they showed success in the rivalry, and in the conference, they were able to to recruit even better and put forth more effort. Now the attitude is completely different. In the last few years, the chatter at the beginning of the season amongst fans and many people within the program is no longer about eagerness to play Florida or win the SEC but to get over the hump in the tournament. They’re out of the shadows that loomed over them and I think it’s really grown their hunger. Once they stopped making their identity about others and focused on themselves, it really sparked something. They are excited they made their first Final Four but they don’t feel satisfied yet. They haven’t been tested too much in this tournament but I think if Washington does put pressure on them, their mental toughness will overcome it. Honestly, I haven’t seen too much of Washington besides this tournament but I’m pretty confident that Kentucky is a much better team.
