Is it just me or is Ally Batenhorst a bit overrated? NOT at all saying she isn't an amazing athlete and great outside hitter, but after watching her highlights I am a little shocked at her winning Gatorade Player of the Year. Seems like the only balls she really pounds are the ones that are PERFECTLY set. Her approach is not very explosive, but being 6'4" helps I am sure.

I actually made a similar comment several days ago and was "hammered" by some Nebraska posters, but this is a Nebraska thread, so not unexpected. I believe the Gatorade POY award committee not only considers on the court achievements but off as well. You need to be well rounded to win it. Knowing that Texas typically has several explosive athletes, I was thinking they might have been overlooked. I guess we'll see how she does at the collegiate level. Explosiveness isn't everything and volleyball IQ often can make up some of the difference.

If the plan is still to have her pay on the right (i.e. not her natural position), I don’t think she’ll be putting up all-world numbers at Nebraska.

Foecke played middle coming into Nebraska. That turned out okay.

And if Sun comes back/moves to the right as some speculate, Batenhorst'd likely play behind her too so she'd have another year to improve.

When I watched video of Foecke in HS I was impressed and sad Stanford didn't recruit her. She had a hammer and all around skills.

That's a good point, because Orr is top notch and delivers balls accurately. What do the say in the the real estate business, location, location, location.

I’m not saying I agree with you bc I don’t really judge them until they get to college but I will say, by the eye test, her contact point is not super high as of right now. Yes, she’s 6’4 so that helps but average height of other outsides is like 6’0-6’2 and I would say most in the B1G are jumping more than two inches higher than batenhorst. We’ll see how she translates to the college game but her contact point is something that I noticed might cause her to struggle early on until she gets her vertical up. Or maybe it won’t. Who knows

Maybe your just a lousy judge of ability. What was your opinion of Luka Doncic? Not explosive and overrated?
