I think the first two contacts are the issue. I love, love, love having watched Rettke for four years, but, if she is graduating, which I think she will be, having come in early, I am like a hoops fan and want her to go get the money some smart club will want to pay her. Hilley may stay, based on her potential grad school enrollment. Haggerty has done so much for the program, but I think she will move on, given her back issues. Not sure on Loberg. Not a good match tonight, but no way I would not want her back if Wisconsin will pick up the tab. I think Barnes said she will be back, which would be really helpful. If Kraft can get UW to pick up the tab of another year of grad school, that would be awesome, and obviously Civita coming back would be great as well. Yeah, I am in favor of spending the money of others, but I will buy fall season tickets, even if I don't feel comfortable using them, as another donation, like the 2020 ones. That said, I am super high on the folks who are slated to be back regardless. A lot of size and power at the net, Smrek and Jardine got great experience, and I am high on Orzal. Gorum and Wohlert may fall under the radar a bit, but it is not like they were not solidly ranked recruits who have now had time in the program. The past few hours have been tough, not going to lie, but I don't feel like the program is going away any time soon.

FWIW, I think Smrek steps in at middle after this spring, and Robinson stays at RS for another year. With Hart still around and some potential ball control issues, being able to find Robinson on a 2 pass or dig would be a huge deal. I have no doubt, however that Robinson will be a huge asset wherever she plays. Also, while Demps only had one kill tonight, how she got it shows me how high her upside is. Not a lot of outsides can hit that shot successfully.

LOBERG NEEDS TO MOVE ON.

I think Dana Rettke should be the first 5x First-Team All-American. Except Texas shut her D O W N. A) You obviously tagged the wrong post. I'm talking about next year, you are talking about last night. B) When "shutting her D O W N" means still hitting .263, that's a pretty good player.

As harsh as it sounds, I think the some of the seniors should move on. Wisconsin can't keep putting all of their eggs in the Loberg/Haggerty basket and expect to win a national championship as proven by the past couple of years. I am a huge Wisconsin fan and a fan of all of these players, but I think focusing on the new classes and their potential will be more beneficial to the program in the future instead of trying to hold on to "what could have been" the last couple of years.
Wisconsin will win a natty soon! I can feel it! I'm speaking it into existence!

I don't think this is harsh, more so reality. To me, it's totally okay to acknowledge and be thankful for the contributions and even irreplaceable attributes this class + Haggerty brought to the program. That said, we've relied on this group for so long that I don't think it would benefit the growth of the greater team to try this again. If it's true that Demps will be one of the best players to come through the program, let's see it! I want to see Jardine's vertical in action, even if she's a bit more raw than Loberg/Haggerty. I want to see Orzol's international experience and Smrek's athleticism. I want to see Gorum in action. I'd like to see how Robinson grows in year two, whether in the middle or on the RS. All of Texas will be back next year. I want to see the Badgers field a team that can be just as dynamic and explosive (uhh ahem, Sydney Reed, can you get your friend Camryn Hannah to transfer to WI, ahem). There's so much excitement ahead for the Badgers, but they have to be given the opportunity!

My guess is the team goes as Robinson/Demps go. The problem for Wisconsin going all the way back to the 90s is that they lack power on the outside. The team's strength is always in the middle and at the setter position, but at the end of the day, championships are decided on the pins and Wisconsin has never had a big, overly physical outside hitter. Guessing Wisconsin will hover around top 5-10 next year if Hilley returns. They have a good collection of talent and size. I'll be surprised if Rettke/Haggerty come back. Would love for Loberg to. Curious of Ashburn stays considering she'll likely never set at UW. Great season overall but a frustrating one with all of the cancellations and a tough match for Rettke/Hilley to maybe end their careers on.

What's the phrase? Whistling past the graveyard? You're crazy if you think you UW will be better next year without Haggerty.

I never said I thought Wisconsin will be better, I said I’d like to see certain players develop and we can’t see them if seniors return. Molly not only brought firepower, but many intangibles. We won’t see this smart of a player with this much grit for a while.

This is very sad for me. Molly has always been such an iconic personality and talent that it's hard to imagine the badgers without her. It will be really hard to replace her. It was aslo such a long hard road for her after that first season. She is a true warrior. I respect the hell out of her, so I respect her decision.

Normally would love to see a player like Haggerty go pro and keep playing for a while, but not sure she physically can. It’s a bummer, but she is one who gave the sport everything she possibly had

I wonder how Molly would do in sand - the crafty shots would just eat people up. But maybe it wouldn't be any easier on the body, I don't know, maybe for knees only. If not sand doubles, then I hope she has a long career playing tournaments (maybe 4s) making lots of tourney winnings that way. I could see that. I'm just rambling, it's an emotional day. Whatever she does, I wish her the best.

Really bummed to hear that Molly isn't returning the Badgers for the bonus season. I'm an Illinois homer but always enjoyed catching Wisconsin matches to watch her play, even when it meant she was carving up the Illini with her crafty swings from the left pin. One of those clutch swings that still stands out in my mind was this out of system beauty in the 2019 Elite Eight match at 17-16 of the second set:
Congratulations to her on a great career and best wishes to her in her future endeavors!
