I mentioned this over in the Hawaii match thread but right now this team is better than the team that made the Final Four last spring. Specifically, they are more solid in serve receive and, at least when playing to their capabilities, better at floor defense. The emergence and growth of Bays at libero has been key. They are also better offensively, with both Hoffman and Grote making major strides since the spring. I don't have the stats to back this up, but it seems they are at least equal to last spring's team in serving, even without Maria B. Hoffman and Crenshaw in particular have come on strong lately in the serving department.
Of course lots of teams are better than they were last spring, and I'm guessing Texas is one of those teams. If the Huskies go down in Austin, I'm pretty confident it won't be without a fight. But I give them a fair chance -- Cook & Co. has them playing their best volleyball right now.

How does KCook prepare UW for the pressures of playing a Tournament Regional match at Gregory?
IMO, it's the toughest home-court environment for a VB team. Nebraska, BYU are tough. But at Gregory, rowdy fans are right on top of the court. It's a very unusual environment.
Many of these UW players remember losing at Baylor. But Gregory, IMO, is a tougher place to play.
And then there's the Texas team, which many feel is the #1 team in the country.
UW is going to have a lot to tune out if they expect to keep pace.

The Ferrell center and Gregory are not remotely close. Ferrell holds more and is a good BBall, VBall place to play (no bad seats) but the atmosphere in Gregory is like BYU only bigger. It is rarely if ever quiet, if your expecting silence when Texas serves don’t hold your breath.

Lol at the reaction when EMP realized Bays got a kill wish someone showed it to Ella during the interview lol I think she may have thought they were referring to Sanders. There is more than one "Lauren" on the team.

Hello UW fans -- If you are traveling here I think you will enjoy the Gregory Gym atmosphere. And if you have any questions about Austin I'd be happy to try to answer, just send a message. Good luck!

Big Congratualtions to all! Glad to see the Marin recognition! She is one of the only 2 middles (Magda being the other)
AVCA PACIFIC NORTH REGION Team - Ella May Powell - Samantha Drechsel - Marin Grote - Claire Hoffman
PACIFIC NORTH REGION COACH OF THE YEAR - Keegan Cook, University of Washington 2021 Record: 26-4
Cook’s Huskies went 17-3 in league play and emerged from the rugged Pac-12 as the conference champ for the second-straight season. With wins in the first two rounds of the NCAA tourney last weekend, Washington advanced to the Sweet 16 for the sixth time in Cook’s seven seasons in Seattle.

As much as we all hate having to play Texas this early, I think the Huskies are prepared and playing at a high level to pull off the upset. Listening to the post match press interview Cook mentioned the Huskies have been asking to play to the Longhorns for awhile. My vote is UW 3-2 with UW service pressure keeping Logan and Parra on their heels. Hoping the service errors on the Texas side help us out as well. Let's go dawgs!

By the time you get to the round of 16, you should be expecting to play one of the top teams in the country. That's the whole point of there only being 16 teams left.
As for Texas, well if the goal is to "reach the Final Four" then sure, it's easier if you can dodge some of the best teams. But if the goal is to win the championship, then you were always going to have to either beat Texas or whoever could take out Texas. If you can do it in this round, then that means you can go the next three rounds inheriting their #2 seed position.

Of course your team has to beat the best to be the best. However one has to be realistic about ones chances. Las Vegas odds wouldn't put UW over Texas and I think everybody can agree with this.
I would have to think that ones objective, as a fan, is to be able to watch your team in extended post play as deep as possible into the tourney culminated by a final four appearance. The path of least resistance is the best way to assure this. Through Texas lies the most difficult path, ie, the earlier one plays Texas the lower the odds of maximizing the journey thrill. Ergo avoid Texas until the very end.
Would any fan have been elated about the prospect of playing Texas first over Brown? I doubt it. The prospect of being one and done is not very appealing to say the least.
