2nd team middles: Kayla Caffey: 2.37 kps on .376, 0 sa/s, 1.13 bps Marin Grote: 2.13 kps on .415, 0 sa/s, 1.05 bps Kaitlyn Hord: 2.92 kps on .394, 0 sa/s, 1.40 bps (she honestly might’ve deserved first team) 3rd team middles: Magda Jehlarova: 2.39 kps on .353, .23 sa/s, 1.45 bps (72 digs on the year!!) Lauren Matthews: 4.54 kps on .480, 0 sa/s, 1.27 bps Asjia O’Neal: 1.81 kps on .383, .33 sa/s, 1.21 bps (60 digs!) If she was at the 2 kps mark she might’ve been 2nd team ahead of Grote, but still no reason not to get honorable mention. kill production is a very fair point but then Butler shouldn't be first team by that logic and she is (sigh AVCA politics) i think the craziest part of all of it now that I’m looking at it is, brionne’s hitting numbers were better than Asjia’s (kps, h%) but asjia’s blocking numbers were better. I would 100% predicted that being flipped coming into the year.

I feel like they both (esp Bri) get tooled A LOT...like its stood out to me esp against Kentucky last year and now Nebraska but even throughout the regular season. do you have their block touch percentages and stuff and how they compare to others around the country?

VM says she had a 12.3% block touch percentage. I’m guessing that means of all swings taken against Texas because I’m not sure they would code specifically enough just to know when she is involved in the block for every swing. Of those 373 though, 173 were considered good touches for a 46.5 good touch percentage. She was tooled 102 times for a 27.4% “error” rate. Butler had 299 block touches (3.02/s). 9.6% block touch percentage. 142 were considered good touches for a 47.5% good touch percentage and she was tooled 101 times for a 33.8% error rate. Let’s take Rettke for example. She had 369 block touches (3.45/s). 9.7% block touch percentage. 193 were good block touches for a 52.3% good touch percentage. She was tooled 86 times for a 23.3% error rate.

watching them both this season, it felt like a lot of the time neither would be pressing over when blocking so even if they made a good read or were fast enough to the pins they would just be putting their hands straight up but this is just an observation, also who in this case coaches blocking and is it the same person who coaches defense?

those error rates (esp Bri)...like I'm confused. why does she struggle so much with that? Two main reasons I’ve seen from her and they all involve when shes late to close the block. Sometimes if she’s late, she get up and over but doesn’t turn her hands/arms back in, leaving her arms facing out of bounds, leading to a tool. But also, sometimes even when you get up, doesn’t mean you actually pushed over the net. If you don’t push over the net, there’s a high chance of a “waterfall” tool where it goes in between the blockers arms and the net. Your arms are also basically straight up at that point which is why you probably see a lot just ricochet off her arms and out of bounds.

Sullivan does middles and the libero... not to rag on the guy but I haven't been impressed lately

Cause this ain’t it.

I’m more worried about the libero and ds aspect. The fact our best passers can’t pass is concerning.

Can I just give a thanks to y’all for letting me haha, glad I found volleytalk and specifically this thread. I’ve been a fan of Texas my whole life and volleyball specifically since Haley Eckerman’s time, but it’s nice to finally have people to talk about it with.
