This is a serious question I ask but what is so significant of Newton's role on the team? Just to my eye when I watched Purdue, it was never on Newton, until she would error ofc. and it seems she isn't a passing dynamo either given they hide her in receive for a decent amount. out of every ten swings, she had 3 kills to go along with an error and a half. I am just curious on Newton, someone with volleymetrics prove me wrong. Now Otec, 100%, she could be a big hole to fill come fall...
On the flip side, we return Grace freaking Cleveland. She really popped off as a premiere talent. Behind her comes Hayley Bush, Trammell and Johnson and the revolving door of outsides battling it out for the other OH slot. I think both Ellis and Chinn showed big upsides, Chinn cooled off greatly toward the end of the season but I felt she was a steady, efficient arm for a large portion.

IMO, given what you see leaving and coming into next season, this conference is yet again very unpredictable but one things for sure is that OSU and Purdue will likely aim towards the top two than not.
I think of the perennial powers Wisco and Penn State will be the two gunning the newbies. Minnesota and Nebraska I feel will have rather off years. Then you have Illinois and Michigan...
I think we are starting to see the true Tamas era begin at Illinois and lets be honest, its rough. I think going forward, having a stricter identity as a team will be crucial and just better luck with injuries. Tamas needs to stick with a 5-1, run Cooney as a 6-ro opposite to start off good. Imo, his OH situation was so all over the place given the injuries and covid, it was hard to say who is a good passer, better terminator, and all of that.
For Michigan, just more consistency... I think of all teams in the country to be really slapped hard by covid it is Michigan and Stanford. I stand by my words in that Jess Mruzik and Paige Jones have the potential to be one of the best OH duos not only in the country but in program history. Pertofsky is looking more and more lethal on the right and the middles are pretty efficient. With that also being said though, they NEED a block.... Worst blocking team in the big ten just hurts. They have court defense but no net to help out.Given, covid issues won't be so big in the fall, the block is something that will need to be hit hard

pretty sure Newton's leaving (she did the whole 'letter to Purdue' thing for NCAA social media) but I'm not sure about Otec. not sure that means a whole lot though, Kayla Lund did that too but she’s coming back in the fall. random thought but Lund and Newton could totally be sisters

Newton was asked to carry a HUGE load for Purdue, and that was often an antecedent to her errors. She took 1043 swings this season, averaging 12.57 attempts per set. Cleveland took 607 and averaged 8.43. Also it should be noted that Newton would have handled a lot of junk balls too. Of course, this isn’t the whole story, and Newton created a number of her errors of her own volition

Purdue gets Hornung’s sister. Would love to have Otec back but if not, those two will be just fine.

I think we are starting to see the true Tamas era begin at Illinois and lets be honest, its rough. I think going forward, having a stricter identity as a team will be crucial and just better luck with injuries. Watching Illinois the last couple years has felt like their identity is fight hard, win some hard-battled sets against great opponents, and then just completely fall to pieces and lose spectacularly in the 11th hour. Don’t @ me I don’t have the stats to back this up, it’s just a feeling I get watching them struggle to close sets and matches.

The number of people who have voted for "Okay" is disheartening.

Rutgers' 2021 class of six has been added to OP. Three of them are transfers. Out of the three freshman recruits, two of them are Americans, and the other is from DOWN UNDER.

Alright, Dana and Deahna, let's finish this. Yeah, hurry up and decide to not win a championship for three years in a row instead of two!
