Fall 2021 Volleyball Season

             


Season's over. It's time to dunk on other fanbases for our own personal satisfaction. This is probably where that will happen.

I just want to touch on a couple things about this OP before we proceed to rip each other's faces off. A lot core principles of this post are exactly the same as last year's Big Ten 2020 thread. Most of it is self-explanatory. If something looks wrong or dumb, just call me out publicly in this thread. I'll be okay.

Senior Watch is a new thing this year. This is basically a repository for all the Spring 2021 seniors whose decision on returning for the fall is not yet certain. When it's announced that a particular senior is returning or leaving, their name will be moved. The end goal, of course, is to have no players under the Senior Watch. This is a good bridge to my next point. Unlike last year, there are no prognostications in this post...yet! It should be obvious that projecting a team's strength depends heavily on eligibility decisions that haven't been revealed as of the publication of this thread. I can't possibly explore every permutation of senior departures on every team. Plus, transfers are still a thing. When we know more, we know more.

There's a lot of moving parts to shuffle in here, so any help in pumping out important information would be greatly appreciated. This ain't a one-man band.

Speaking of community involvement, I want to do a preseason Big Ten poll leading up to the start of the fall season. I hope you'll participate. Until then, start spreading your shameless homerism.

Wouldn't be surprised to see PSU come back with a vengeance this fall, especially if they get Pritchard. I don't think Wisconsin will drop too much with Barnes and Hilley coming back, but Smrek is not Rettke as far as I can tell. Nebraska will live and die on the arms of Krause and Batenhorst, any offensive improvement from Kubik would be huge. Minnesota might struggle this season unless Landfair's ready for the big time.

To build off of what bprtbone said, I was considering linking the Big Ten's "official" standings from last season. But, they're not right and almost never are, so I didn't.

Maryland is somehow listed at 4-16 instead of 5-15, for example. They entered both of their matches against Northwestern as five-set losses on the site.

Most of the other errors are just them deciding that updating the standings is not important.
