D3 mens volleyball once again runs through the Midwest!! Glad Carthage and their “too many” all Americans were able to shut everyone up. Can’t have a much more dominant tournament run than that.

Matt Slivinski might be the best pin hitter in D3 history. I'm officially a Carthage bandwagoner. Charlie Sullivan stinks and Brad Schneider was obviously bombed during his post 2nd set interview. Shout out to all of the kids on the Carthage bench who will be losing their virginity tonight. Coach Kieckhefer congrats on the amount of Busch heavies you'll be able to buy with this Natty chip bonus.

Although I’m sure he’d rather trade 2 Nattys for a POY.

I can think of multiple Stevens (Fereiter, Evans), Paltz, and Springfield (Vega, Brandow) that are all better than him. Chill out Skeeeeippp

Go back to the 90's when there wasn't a D3, there were some incredible pin hitters on "D3" teams playing in the EIVA.

For everyone coming at me, I was being half serious. But if you don't think Slivinski was absolutely dominant the last 3-4 years, you are on drugs. The kid absolutely hammers balls and makes the clutch time plays. I'm an east coast guy with a national championship under my belt and it isn't hard to say that he is one of the greater pins division 3 has seen.

Going home runner-up gets you a chick so big, her blood type is Ragu. Kenosha isn’t big enough for 2 gunslingers so Slivinski and Rittenhouse are set to dog it out next week. Carthage pretty much won the natty when Fontbonne didn’t get in to upset them in the first round. In all seriousness cheers to everyone who worked all year to make their program better and I’m hammering Bard natty next year (+100000.)

Nally, Ocasio, Fritz, etc. I like this game... Best D3 Setter Ever Matt Werle - Juniata - 3x first team All-American (2nd team as a freshman), 3x national champ, and how good was he? In the NCAA All-Divisions record book, they have 3 sections for hitting percentage by scoring era, 25 names each (75 total) and only 2 of them played D3 - Matt Werle's two MHs in 2009 when they were still in the EIVA. -Honorable Mention to Tucker Short of Springfield Best D3 MH ever I was going to say 4x All-American Greg Falcone but I remember watching when Springfield went to the World University Games and the Russians made him look like a little boy, so instead I'll go with 4x All-First-Team American Cal Palumbo of Springfield. Both were monsters. Best D3 OH Ever There are 2 4x first-team All Americans and if I was picking a team I'd start with volleyball Jesus, Justin Brubaker of Philly Bible, but Tim Ferriter was also a 4x All-American, did it at two different schools, and won a ring for Dorywalski, so on overall resume I think he has to get the title. -Honorable Mention - I never saw him play but if we start this conversation with a guy who took 5 years to get 1000 kills, I'll finish with a guy who was a match or two away from 2000 kills in mostly EIVA competition, NYU's Mitch Kallick (1999-2002). Best D3 Libero Ever N/A Seriously? In D3 men's volleyball most digs are an accident.

Final Coach's Poll for 2022
1. Carthage (+1) - Unassailable number one team. 2nd consecutive National title and winners of 24 straight. Well deserved for JW and his men. 2. Springfield (-1) - A worthy runner-up and excellent return to the national stage for the Pride; Hope this group can translate their experiences this year into a return back next year. 3. Wentworth (+3) - Winning arguably the toughest regional, this group showed they were more than the Laboo show before running into the Carthage buzz saw 4. Stevens (+1) - All year long the Ducks found ways to win matches- it wasn't always pretty but more often than not they got the job done. Coach Buehring's impact on this program in only his 2nd year was very impressive 5. Dominican (-2) - A huge congratulations to Doug Burchett (who received my vote for National Coach of the Year) for leading this veteran squad to the Quarterfinals and a tough matchup in Kenosha Regional 6. Rutgers-Newark (-2) - Coach Wilson's squad was a well oiled machine all year, but ran into a red-hot Wentworth team that was just a bad match-up for them; Returning talent will make this squad one to keep your eye on 7. New Paltz (+2) - A team who out performed my expectations all year long- they got some huge wins but were just out manned in the Springfield Regional 8. NCC (-1) - Our first "Sweet 16" team to be ranked; This NCC squad was only defeated by #1 team (x3) #5 team (x1) and Loras; Lots of returning talent for this squad 9. St. Joe's (NR) - HUGE win for Bill Kropp and this St. Joe's squad over SVU; A win well earned by this team 10. St. John Fisher (+2) - Another team with a tremendous finish to their season, although swept by Wentworth the match was incredibly competitive and a few points changed may have placed this team in the Final 4 11. Southern Virginia (-3)- A disappointing finish for this Southern Virginia squad, doesn't take away from some nice wins they had during the season 12. Juniata (-1) - Coach DeHaven and his squad had to work around injuries all year long, but if Kevin Duffy is returning this team will be dangerous next season 13. Messiah (-3) - An unfortunate start to the year for Coach Beachy and bad luck finish losing Matt Knab to injury - with every other starter returning, I wouldn't be shocked to see them in MAC contention again 14. Vassar (0) - 5 of the 6 Brewer losses came to teams in the NCAA field, but some excellent wins during the year as well; Coach Gary returns a ton of talent as they prepare to return to NCAA Tournament 15. Marymount (0) - A first ever NCAA tournament appearance for Coach Liberto's veteran squad, their hot start may seem a long time ago but definitely helped them earn their at-large bid
Also Considered: Stevenson, Loras, Endicott
