Concordia has fired Shawn Patchell and is looking for a new head coach. Perhaps C.D. will be coming out of retirement to fill his spot?

What'd Patchell do?

Voted for BYU #1 too many times? Seriously, a lot of kids have left the program with eligibility, so maybe all that added up and the AD opted not to renew his contract. It will be interesting to see if Kosty is on their list of candidates.

CUI shouldn’t have never hired him in the first place. Didn’t he get fired from BYU for some hanky panky? Dude probably has suspect character.

Your statement/question is False Just a quick educational piece for the youth before anyone writes something like this 1) The opinion/statement is totally false 2) Defamation & Libel come up all the time with ease in the court system 3) Educate yourself on what that means (especially is you are writing something on a message board/social media or saying something on a zoom, podcast, interview, etc. www.legalzoom.com/articles/differences-between-defamation-slander-and-libel

Unless you know Shawn personally, which you obviously don't, this crap is uncalled for. He's a stand up individual who's a family man first and foremost; on top of that, he's done very well at a tiny, tiny school not 5 mins from UC Irvine. Next time you get the urge to drop false statements, think twice!

It was essentially scholarship money that was given to one student and then shared with a sibling. He was always very open about it, and what he had said matched what was reported at the time. I know someone who was on the interview panel for Patchel at CUI. I asked why they looked at him knowing his NCAA troubles. He said he was very open and honest about their mistakes.
The other issue with BYU (but not Patchel) came with Cala and another man who defected from Cuba but didn't play. Someone paid their legal fees, gave him a bike, and he had a job where it was deemed he made more money than a typical student would.
Yes, he had NCAA violations. No, it was not hanky panky.

This is unfortunate if true. I know many had their differences with Patchell, but he is an overall good guy from what I have seen.
If this is true...who are the leading candidates for the position? Any current coaches out there with CUI connections?

Never liked him ever since seeing him verbally berate one of the officials at a Hawaii game for a call that replay showed to be obviously correct.

I totally get that it's a small world we all reside in here, but you really need to lighten up. The term "hanky pinky" is rather comical and I'm not sure the original author meant it anything other than a reference to a factual incident that resulted in Patchel being let go from BYU. This obviously hits close to you, which means you are probably close to Coach Patchel. He's a damn good coach and he'll land on his feet. But unfortunately his occupation is one that gets discussed on message boards like this. The dude seems to have thick skin and will roll with this just fine. At the end of the day, this is a message board where opinions are free to be shared within the rules of the site. Maybe take this opportunity to share some insights into the positives about Coach Patchel.

Any current coaches out there with CUI connections? This would be the perfect opportunity for Brad, the kid coaching at Vanguard right now. That would be a perfect hire. He's in the area, he's done great things in a short time, dedicated, matches the core values of the school, and just an asset to any university.

He’s the guy who voted for BYU at #1 too many times? Good riddance.

I know he looks 14, but let’s refrain from calling him a kid - it’s a bit demeaning. That said, he would be a great hire but from what I can tell he has a better job right now.

I know he looks 14, but let’s refrain from calling him a kid - it’s a bit demeaning. That said, he would be a great hire but from what I can tell he has a better job right now. The world has gone insane when someone actually takes offense to "kid", a term applied to people 1 to 91 years old. I think it's offensive you say he looks 14, that's demeaning. Heck, maybe I was using the term "kid" to refer to a goat, which has become the term for the greatest of all-time. So while I appreciate you standing sentry on the PC task force, I meant nothing wrong and will tell that to Brad the next time I cross his path. And yes, he would be the perfect hire, especially with his previous ties to the university. I don't know the details of where he is at now, but personally I can't immediately see what at Vanguard would be better than being at Concordia. It seems like a nice step up to play matches at a higher skill level. I'm sure there are strong points to each of those jobs. Ultimately, it's his opinion that matters, if he's even in the conversation. At this juncture it's all speculation. If he went to Concordia, it would be a wonderful change of culture for the program. Every coaching style has its merits and its shortcomings, and change can be healthy at times. Watching a senior-laden Concordia team not have a consistent lineup this season and have players run hot and cold all year long, when compared to other senior-rich teams that were consistent, says something about the team chemistry and culture. Getting Brad behind the clipboard would result is some kids blossoming into talented players.
