Okay!
First things first - Would love for this seemingly annual matchup to be played in the Odome. The Lemerand Center is TIGHT. The last few years, lots of people show up for this match. Or if they could put some bleachers in. So it's nice to see the fan support!
Secondly, with Kennedy Martin and Jaela Auguste recently being selected to the U21 National Team, they were both absent today. That, coupled with the slew of players still rehabbing (Stucky, Gravlee, Hudson, Hoyle), UF played pretty much everyone they could even field.
I don't think there was really any lineup change:
S: Parks Opp: Rothe (Vogel DS) M1: Essix M2: Thomas OH1: Martin (Adama DS) OH2: ACF (Canaan DS, maybe these two DSs swapped, I didn't pay close enough attention)) L: McKissock
5 sets were played, Georgia tech technically won 3-2. The scores were something like 25-20, 25-13, 23-25, 26-24, 8-15. Set three and four were closely contested with GT eking out the victory in the fourth set before playing an inconsequential fifth.
General thoughts: - The Gators looked rough in the first two sets. Passing wasn't great, sets were low and inside, the OHs had maaaaybe 4-5 kills and none of them clean. - Set three turned around a lot! Parks finally got the middles and Rothe involved which opened up the net for I. Martin to get better looks. She had maybe 5 kills in this set alone and was well-supported by both middles and Rothe. - ACF's jump serve looked goooooood. I think only missed once or twice the whole match and had three or four aces I think. - Our blocking was meh. Our middles looked a little lost here and there. Maybe because GT has pretty good OHs and a pair of Opposites in their 6-2 that they have to respect. But I felt like Thomas in particular wasn't able to close very often. - Rothe was GREAT. If I had been setting, I would be just chucking every other ball to her as if she was Kennedy Martin. It's a shame neither she or Kennedy play OH because both would be elite Opposites, in my opinion. I expect Rothe will be starting in the middle though. We just literally had no other hitters to field so that she could play middle today. - I was a wee bit concerned with Parks sets to the right for a little while. Given that our offense should primarily be running through Kennedy, I thought Parks would be setting behind her way more, but she definitely favored a quick OH set. Probably just a personnel thing. She and Rothe did connect REALLY well a handful of times. - Parks' blocking wasn't very impactful. Probably still adjusting to the speed of the game, but her height was exploited a decent amount. - Hmm what else... some really scrappy plays from Canaan and McKissock as usual. Vogel seems to be the only one of the new batch of littles who might see the court. Otherwise, the trio of McKissock, Canaan, and Adams are holding down the fort there. - Essix was a little hot and cold. Slow to close at times, sent some balls way out (but really due to low sets). She pounded some other balls and did get a handful of blocks. I expect Rothe to be M1 with Essix and Auguste fighting for that M2 spot.
I left feeling positive (helps to end the match with a fifth-set W, even if inconsequential lol). Parks is good and this spring will be invaluable experience. I have no idea where Stucky is at with her rehab, but I'd kind of expect Parks to at least start the season? I don't know. With Kennedy and Auguste back, I think we'll be pretty competitive! Keys are, as always, going to be if our DSs can pass and if we can get even just of our two outsides to contribute reliably.

Was impressed with the play in general. Was not impressed with Isabel Martin at UCF, but she played well today, all aspects of the game. I thought we served well and received well. Very steady. I think it's going to be a good year. Many positive vibes going on. Afraid Amaya is not the answer in the middle, and Gabrielle may lose playing time to Auguste. I can also see AC losing playing time.

Auguste was absent because she isn't in school yet.

Another not in school yet is Lauren Harden, Max Preps National player of the year, a 6'3 OH. I think we'll be just fine at OH. I'm most concerned about Stucky, though Parks can run this offense, just not as well as Stucky.

I see. Georgia Tech only "technically" won. It's because they scored more points and won more sets, so you felt "technically" obligated to accept that outcome.
Even though you didn't want to.

I think you are reading that one wrong. The "technically" part is, GT actually won 3-1, but they played the 5th set anyway. That was were they posted "GT eking out the victory in the fourth set before playing an inconsequential fifth." way to be in mid season form though!!

I thought he had inserted "technically" because Florida had so many starters out. But he already noted that up front, so adding on the qualifier seemed like a bit of sour grapes.
I assure you, this is off-season form for me. I can definitely ramp it up.

I will said it again, the problem at Florida is the excessive use of DS, lack of developing the passing skills of their OH and this year, at least for part of the regular season, our OH are short compare with others and their passing is average.

I’m going to express my point of view of how I’m seen the Florida Team this year, and again, is how I see it. - I think in the middle we will be more than ok with Rothe, Essix and August starting in the summer. Thomas for me is not at the level of a Dov 1 middle blocker. - Kennedy Martin will be even better that next year, with the experience and been part of the USA Team U21 selection team. Rothe could be an excellent RS as well, she is superb player. - I really don’t understand why we have some many DS, the team this year will have 20 players and 8 of them are DS/Liberos. We actually need players that can score and kill the ball. - I like the idea of having a third setter on the team, specially with the experience we had last year. Taylor Parks could do the job, she is a good setter at the level of M. Monzerai. She and the new 5 year commer are way better than Muff. We wont be able to count with Stucky, at least until the middle or end of the regular season. - for me the problem will be with the OH, the ones available are not good passers, I don’t know why Gravlee don’t have more changes to play, she is tall and physical. AC Fitzpatrick and I. Martin are short players and their passing is not the best. Unfortunately Kira wont be available to playing until the middle or end of the regular season. I’m hoping that Lauren Harden could be ready in the summer and we can use her, she is tall and has a hammer as an arm too.
something positive is we have new trainer. Hopefully she can keep our players healthy and none get hurt or become big as last year. Florida has to play against Texas. I saw a game of them and they look even better than last year. In the SEC conference Florida will be having good competence from Texas, Kentucky and Tennessee. Let hope the coaches do the job and develop our player to the level they could be.
This year I’m expecting they going far, but they have to work hard in order to compete against other strong teams, like Texas, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Penn State, Minnesota and maybe others in the conference.
If our players stay healthy, I’m sure we could do a good job. Next year will be even better team.

Actually only 7 will be Libero/DS The roster on Gators website doesn’t seem to be complete for 2024 season, but I believe it will be 8 of them.
