Defending national champion Santa Clara knocked off No. 1 seed Duke 2-1 to get back to the Final Four. As it happens, the Final Four this year will be played on Santa Clara's campus, so they're battle-tested from the spring and they get to play at home. The Broncos only had two shots on goal in the entire match and scored on both of them. I have a lot of respect for Kelsey Turnbow, who is one of the best and most clutch players in the country. In the other matches, Florida State defeated Michigan 1-0, and Rutgers prevailed over Arkansas 4-2 in penalties after the match ended 2-2, with all four goals being scored in the first half. There is one more Final Four spot up for grabs, as BYU hosts South Carolina tomorrow at 5 PM MT. The match will be streamed live on BYUtv here.

The National Championship is going to be a #1 seed vs. an unseeded team or #4 BYU. That should be fun.
An All-WCC Semifinal does sound cool.

On the men's side, while UW was playing WSU yesterday, the UW men were playing soccer against (IIRC) Illinois. I tuned in to that stream and saw the UW was down 1-0 in the second half. They eventually won 3-2 on a "golden goal" overtime score. All three goals were scored by the same UW player, who *also* had a hat trick in their previous match.

What is the NCAA going to do if BYU wins their semi final? They won't be able to play the final on Sunday.

See section 1.4 ("Important Dates") of the pre-championship manual on page 10. I find this annoying. Everyone else is expected to accommodate BYU's quirk. Do they move Friday night games if there are Orthodox Jews on the team? Or Saturday games if Seventh-Day Adventists are playing? No, they don't.

Yes, we're all aware that this annoys you, since you bring it up at least once a year. It's not going to change, so you better learn to live with it. At any rate, it's an institutional policy. If there was a school run by one of the other religions you mentioned and they qualified for the postseason, they would also be accommodated if playing on a particular day (Sunday, Saturday, Friday, whatever) was against the institutional policy of the school.

The Final Four will be on Friday, with Florida State and Rutgers kicking off at 7 PM ET. Santa Clara and BYU will follow at 9:30 ET. At first, I was surprised that the match between the two 1 seeds was first, but it has to be due to geography, since FSU and Rutgers are both in the east.
The NCAA posted a highlight video of all the goals that were scored during the Elite 8.

Somehow still scoreless after extra time and going to a shootout.

Wow. I'm stunned.
I thought BYU was toast after that second miss and that Santa Clara was going to take a 2-0 advantage in PK's.
