Outdoor nationals start today at 7:30 ET on ESPN2. Just tagging those who might be interested. c4ndlelight avid 2.0 nellynel @nyline geddyleeridesagain According to the latest formcharts, it looks like Texas should win the women's competition easily (they're projected to finish with 16 points more than projected second Florida and 24 more than projected third LSU), whereas the men's competition is projected to be very close, with Florida, Texas and NCA&T all projected within four points of each other. Georgia, Stanford and possibly Florida State are also projected to be within striking distance if the favorites falter. Thanks for the heads up. I don't follow NCAA that closely - I'm more of a Diamond League guy - but I'll tune in to see if NCA&T can take to the big boys. Also interested in watching the progression of the Boling kid, and there's a freshman at Cal throwing the discus 225' I'd like to see as well. NCA&T is pretty legit. They finished on the podium on both the men's (third) and women's side (tied for fourth) at 2021 outdoor nationals. Boling has been a sensation since he was in high school, though I think he only has one NCAA title (200 at indoor nationals in 2021). The Cal discus thrower, Mykolas Alekna, wasn't on my radar, but he should have been. He's broken the NCAA record in the event twice in the past six weeks. Definitely someone to watch.

ESPN has added Robert Griffin III to their track coverage. I think he's doing a pretty good job so far. I didn't realize this, but he was a pretty accomplished track athlete himself, finishing third at nationals in the 400m hurdles as a freshman who graduated a semester early in 2008.

BTW, the Cal kid - Go Bears - sounded super familiar. Sure enough, his dad is one of the greatest discus throwers in history - two golds and a bronze in the Olympics. I can’t believe I didn’t make the connection sooner. Just watched a video of the kid - looks around 6’6,” quick and explosive. I wonder if Justin Wilcox has tried to introduce himself yet?

i hate men's day / women's day format they switched to. Made it so impractical to double/triple up, when that's what we want to see as viewers

I didn't realize that Tennessee had hired Duane Ross away from NCA&T. So this may be NCA&T's last shot at a team title for a while.

Dwight Stones is referring to races of 800m or more as "roundy rounds." I don't remember him doing this before. It's pretty grating.

The men's 10K final is underway. Athanas Kioko has jumped out to an 80m lead with 20 laps to go. This should be fun to see if he can hold on.
Edit: the chase pack caught him with five or so laps to go.

Entertaining finish in the 10K as Dylan Jacobs of Notre Dame outkicked the field to win.

For the record, I still hate the steeplechase.

To no one's surprise, Camryn Rogers wins another title in the hammer throw and sets another collegiate record. Meanwhile, Courtney Wayment cruised to a qualification in her heat of the steeplechase. She should win the final, but that was true last year also (she ran a poor tactical race), so we'll see.
