Parker Valby runs 14:52.18 to shatter the 5000 meter collegiate record. She capped off the most successful season for a distance runner in NCAA history, as she won cross country nationals, 3000 and 5000 indoors, and 5000 and 10000 outdoors. Five titles in one academic year. early bowerman favorite? She should be. I'm not all that familiar with how the voting has gone in the history of the Bowerman (i.e. I don't know if there is a bias toward sprinters the way that the AVCA's National Player of the Year is clearly biased toward outside hitters), but Valby dominated the three biggest meets of the year. McKenzie Long was great at outdoors, but she only had a second-place finish at indoors. Also, one of her titles was in a relay, and I think the 100/200 double is significantly easier to pull off than the 5K/10K double. I'm not sure who else is even in the mix, but to me, Valby should win going away.

The US Olympic Trials start tonight on NBC. It's mostly prelims with one final (men's 10K, I think).

Yeah, I looked at that the other day. I think we really need to see what happens at the Jamaica trials to get a good idea of what might happen in Paris. The last four gold medals have been won by either Thompson-Herah or Fraser-Pryce, and neither have really gone all out yet.

Lol, Christian Coleman just won his heat. But before it, Ato Boldon noted that Coleman had made "every 100 team that he tried out for." I was wondering if they were just going to ignore Coleman's suspension for whereabouts violations that kept him out of Tokyo, but the other announcer brought it up.
