I put Ohio State at 3 in a poll I do after watching them and seeing other teams struggle this weekend. I still like the Badgers over them, and I am not sold on their left side attack if you can get them out of system (and, yes, I would say the same of Wisconsin), but you are going to have to get them out of system or be really strong at the net to beat them, and getting them out of system is not easy given their back row play, starting with Murr. Londot makes right a bail out option, either front row or back. Honestly, I think it is a bigger advantage for the Badgers to not play in Columbus than to also not play in Unhappy Valley (2-a gazillion ever) this year. I am excited about the 2021 Bucks, but not sure they are worthy of a top 5 ranking at this point. One home win over a Washington team which earned credibility with multiple 5-set wins in the covid NCAA tournament - should not catapult a team to #4. Clearly a team that can become very good, but IMO, it’s too early for TOSU to be top 5. I’m not sure our Huskies are top 3 in the PAC.

I wanna stop and take stock for a second.... We are ranked #4 in the AVCA for the first time in 27 years... Last time Ohio St volleyball was this good... - This banger was the #1 song in America - George Foreman released this masterpiece of culinary technology on the world - Tim Allen was at his peak with this classic: We don't need to talk about what happened after this... -We thought tases creatures were basically extinct: But now I can buy a Crested Gecko in just about any store.. - Finally, RR was an over-excited 5 year old running around a JCC (even though he wasn't Jewish) in Maryland.... It's a good time to be a Nut.

I am so thankful to Coach Carlston for filling our cupboards with so many great players.

The thing is that 5 teams have to be in the top 5, even if they may not seem like top 5 teams. There seems to be more parity, and a lot of teams potentially in that group have had struggles early on.

That’s a nice get from UT’s backyard. Add her to Grace Egan, Mia Tuman, Chelsea Thorpe, maybe Alec Rothe/Ella Brandewie and it’s looking like Ohio State has a very bright future ahead combined with the talent on the current roster that has several years of eligibility left.

Recruiting elite athletes to Ohio State has - nor never will be - difficult. Agreed. Glad this coaching staff can figure out how to develop kids, the last one couldn't...

As good of a recruiter Carlson was in his last few years, I couldn’t agree with this more. Watching Podraza, Gonzales, Grunze, and Londot develop and improve so much just in one calendar year makes it clear to me that this staff will be able to maintain not only a high level of recruiting, but will finally see the expected results that go along with it.

OSU sweeps James Madison (17,22,14). Mia Grunze seemed to struggle today, but I am not sure how accurate the live stats were today. I noticed several times where they said Gonzales was taking multiple swings while in the back row and none for Mia, so they were probably mixing them up.

The littles on the court will always be scrappy, but I am beyond thrilled to see more of the big kids playing back row, playing major roles in serve receive and a well-developed back row attack. Don't want to overlook the littles in the back row as they have also improved significantly. We used to have no depth defensively when the big kids got injured or tired and couldn't play 6 rotations.

Yeah, I was going to include Murr in that list, but honestly... she's just a phenomenal player and always has been haha, not sure any coach needed to develop her per se.

At least the volleyball team had a good day. Sweeps over VCU (15,23,17) and Virginia (16,17,18). Gabby Gonzales played really well with 30 kills and hitting over .400 in both matches.
Next up is a home & home with Notre Dame and then the B1G.
