Not sure I like the 15-point golden set, but it sure was an exciting finish.

I believe Canada messed up with their teams this quad...in my opinion, a team of Ben Saxton and Sam Schachter would have given them a better chance to qualify.....they had two decent teams, but not a good one....Schalk only deciding to switch federations at the end of 2017 didn't help but they had enough time to right the ship...

I wonder if Schalk regrets his decision. His way back to the FIVB hasn’t looked easy.

I wonder if they gave any thought to playing Saxton and Schachter in the golden set. Based only on today, they were the best two Canadians. Although Grant played much better in the first match, so maybe that’s just perfect hindsight. Let’s see if they make that switch now with an eye on 2024.

For what it's worth: Morocco (Men) and Kenia (Women) are going to the Olympics as well.

I wonder how Mexico is going to pick between their two teams. Ontiveros/Virgen have a higher Olympic ranking (3636 provisional ranking points), but I think everyone would agree that Gaxiola/Rubio (2920) are the better team.

Impressive performance by Xue/Wang of China! They won the women's Asian bid all on their own. Another team was signed up to play with them, but they forfeit all of their matches. Not sure if there was an injury or if it was a COVID situation, but Xue/Wang won six matches in three days to punch their ticket. They even beat Laird/Palmer from Australia twice in the semifinals, and both games went three sets.

It was an injury....they started the first match, even won set 1, I think, but then couldn't continue..

They had two women's teams in Sydney, Athens, and Beijing, culminating with silver and bronze in 2008. Then they have had one team qualify for London and Rio. Xue/Wang were the fourth highest ranked team from the Asian region behind Australia 1, China 1, and Japan 1, all of whom had already qualified through other routes. Side note, the Olympic provisional rankings has the Russian teams under the Olympic flag now. They are listed as athletes from the "ROC" which I assume is the Russian Olympic Committee.
