I've seen Sedwick play too many times to consider her the best setter in the Big12......and Elliott for COY, very disappointed in that choice. He would have been maybe 4th on my list. But, I don't get a vote. Other than that, great choices on all the others - all deserving. Concerning Elliott, remember his contemporaries voted him the award and I suspect they know more about coaching than you do. this comes across as mean-spirited

Last I checked this was a Forum in which I am free to express my opinion, as are you. I know who votes for these awards and I clearly stated that I don't get a vote. Because you are questioning my coaching ability, I have now knocked Elliott down to 5th on my list!

this comes across as very mean-spirited That was the intent as I felt the referenced comment was the same. less of an insult to Jerritt, more of a nod to the job the other coaches did...we all know what Jerritt is able to do with his talent. personally I just felt that some of the other coaches getting their teams to the tournament for the first time in a while/ever was deserving of recognition. I'm sure others feel the same way. I'm not horribly upset about it either way though.

Maybe the other coaches value winning the conference, #2 ranking and seed, and a one-loss season more than 8-8 and 7-9 conference records.

Well, JC was voted by his peers and they are factoring in his recruiting acumen, his ability to keep all his stars happy enough to play well to keep his team #2 in the country, as well as winning the Big12. It's for best coach, not best improved team (as a result of the coach).

Sedwick looks to have the best combo of Assista/set and team hitting percentage. Not sure anyone looks better enough without the stats to overcome that. Elliott... I’ll pass judgement. Good for him. He’s a good coach and a safe pick.

So, for the different player awards, only conference stats should be relevant. Perhaps for COY, only the conference records were taken into account/

Sure, she’s not the best pure setter with the cleanest hands, but everything else she does on the court- her attacking, blocking, serving, and floor defense- is all so valuable to Baylor.

IMO her strongest point this year was that Baylor appeared to jell and become much more consistent as a team once she became the full time setter.

It will be interesting to see once Elliott moves to the Big 12 if he keeps winning COY against two programs with recruiting ability closer to Texas. Just feel like an asterisk is somewhat warranted when compounding the gap between athletics, pedigree of school, and general coolness of location against a lot of other Big 12 schools.

Pretty sure Jerritt won COY in the Big 12 when Nebraska, Mizzou, A&M, and Colorado were still in the conference. He already proved he could catch and surpass a conference rival with Nebraska's success. When Texas joins the SEC, he won't have to do that as Texas will be the program with more success and history than those we are joining. So, no * needed now nor ever.

Those things haven’t helped the football team in the last decade. Should we wait before they get better before we give the football coaches an asterisk?
