Pretty funny that VNL had a bad rep but if we get past Serbia it’s a rematch of that final. (Love you KYK, Brazil isn’t as messy as Turkey) FIVB may get their wish of teams taking it more seriously. Italy should've. Serbia probably should've but Boskovic will bail them out not to keep posting this everywhere today but Serbia looked fantastic last night. Every single one of their players executed her role perfectly. Not sure they VNL mattered all that much for them

Can we all agree Maja the Serbian setter has had some of the best ever 1 handed sets in these last few matches?? Popovic literally unloaded on one of them!

Can we also talk about how no setter is touching Maja, and how the rest of the setting overall is really below average. There have been some really messy setters this Olympics, and other than the Brazil match, Maja has been far and away the best setter

But yes, Maja is playing very well as is Macris (she calmed Brazil down against ROC)

I'd add in Macris too. The match today shifted when she entered.

I thought cansu was a big reason turkey lost last night

But over the 150-200 odd balls she set in a 5 setter, she was good. And over the course of the tourney she and Naz made Meliha/Hande/Tugba/Seyma/Boz look a lot better than they actually are.

Also, Guidetti… he didn’t really make this team improve as he did the Netherlands. I thought Turkey was pretty stagnant throughout the quad. So inconsistent, but would get good wins here and there. I would argue this Olympics was probably the best they’ve played over the course of a tournament, but they were still extremely inconsistent
It felt like everyone was waiting for the Turkish team to emerge as a great team. But honestly, they’re no different than they were in 2018 in terms of consistency.

To answer Madden’s question, my dream team for this Olympics is…
OH: KYK, Fe Opp: Boskovic S: Maja MB: Eda, Fahr L: JWO

And very specifically they had no peak Sloetjes.

And very specifically they had no peak Sloetjes. Turkey arguably started the quad with a better starting 7. And Turkey definitley had the advantage at multiple positions. setter is better for Turkey, libero better for Turkey, middles Turkey, opposite belongs to the Dutch. But people seem to forget that Sloetjes wasn’t all that until 2015-2016. Here’s how I see it: there was very little difference between the Dutch and Turkey at the start of their quads in terms of skill. The Dutch progressed way more. They were literally a tier 2 WGP team when Guidetti took over. Their progression was much more significant
