I doubt it. He had one job, and it was to maximize the remainder of the Marouf era. If they lose here, he obviously didn’t do that How do you figure? The goal is to try to figure out how they stay relevant when Maroof retires. The team has done well and has young talent coming up.

I doubt it. He had one job, and it was to maximize the remainder of the Marouf era. If they lose here, he obviously didn’t do that Marouf was from a different generation of Iran mens volleyball. They have a lot of talented young players. Saadat one of them. Its not good to change the coach based on a player that was there before the coach even became part of the team. The paris olympics is in 3 years. I think they will keep Alekno. Change will be an option after the Paris olympics.

Takahashi came up huge. Of course Nishida was putting up big numbers, but Ishikawa also heated things up after being defended well by iran.
Salehi was also awesome by Iran. And I actually thought their 2 libero system was working really well

But I don’t think a guy like Alekno sticks around as they go through a re-tooling process with a team 2 steps below the world’s best. Not saying Iran fires him, but I could see a “mutually part ways” sort of situation.

But with only 3 years until the next Olympics, my guess is they try to keep him.

Not me crying on a Sunday morning because JAPAN WON!!!They could’ve folded after losing that close 3rd set (despite having multiple opportunities to win it on serve), but they stuck through it and just balled out. So proud of this team, especially since Iran was going toe to toe with Japan up until the end

And I actually thought their 2 libero system was working really well Totally agree - Takahashi and Nishida looked so composed and were just killing it throughout the match. I loved Sekita's decision making too. When he started going to the bic more, Japan was hard to stop. Something lit a fire in Ishikawa after that 3rd set. He led the team huddle, started upping his level of play in the 4th, then went full beast mode in the 5th. He really embodied a captain and emotional leader today.
