Thinking about the QFs is making me anxious already. Canada had a bad end to pool play, and their QF against Russia in Rio was a complete blowout. I really hope they’re ready to play and can at least make it a competitive match. When it comes to high pressure games, Canada hasn’t historically played well. Maybe Winzer can fire them up with a “choose to compete” speech. I fully believe this could be done faster than the Poland match. Canada needs a Miracle on Ice type event to beat the ROC. Now I don’t think it will be done faster than the Poland match. Poland played the best I’ve seen them this summer and Russia doesn’t have the serve that Poland has. But I will say, the Russian block will affect Canada to a near extent as Poland’s unless Canada can get something from their opp |

On top of that we had Hoag and SVE playing as inconsistent as they normally do. If they can have above average games for themselves I really think Canada can compete with Russia. I think you might overestimate Russia, but I can see why. They’re physical. They aren’t unstoppable though. Mikayhlov and Kliuka have been inconsistent these games. But I do agree with you regarding the offense. Van Berkel and Vigrass barely get set, even in perfect passes or digs. It’s frustrating, I hope coach Hoag has the team doing things we haven’t seen from them yet at the Olympics. |

For some reason, I thought part of the sanctions against Russia was that their anthem wasn’t to be played in these Games. Nick Hoag looked as confused as I am when they started playing Russia’s anthem just now.
