I just don't see Japan beating Brazil or Canada beating ROC. France vs Poland will be amazing. I'm officially rooting for Argentina to make the semi's and to crush Italy. Italy is not as invincible as they were in previous years. They are beatable. I think Argentina will win.

France - Poland Argentina - Italy Brazil - Japan Russia - Canada Brazil and Russia are on the same side. Potentially will meet at the semis. why tf are the top 2 pool teams on the same side of the bracket? I didn’t know the drawing did that, I thought it only determined 2v3 or 2v2, 3v3. That’s dumb This suprised me too. So a Brazil vs Russia finals cannot happen.

I really don’t like Argentina. I think it’s because their pin hitters are so average yet De Cecco carries them to acceptable performances. I don’t think they’ll beat Italy (especially if Michieletto is playing well), but Argentina has been over performing this entire Olympics so i won’t be extremely surprised.

Fun fact: Prior to these Olympics, Japan had not won an Olympic match in 29 years. So cool to see them earn a QF spot on home turf. Also impressed that they did it with Nishida (only 21 years old) and Takahashi (University student) playing huge roles. Brazil is the heavy favorite but I’ll be happy regardless of the outcome

Thinking about the QFs is making me anxious already. Canada had a bad end to pool play, and their QF against Russia in Rio was a complete blowout. I really hope they’re ready to play and can at least make it a competitive match. When it comes to high pressure games, Canada hasn’t historically played well.

This was definitely USA's best chance for a gold for a while. It's insane that they started so well and just completely collapsed.

While I do think the energy and execution faltered, Argentina brought their A game and France did a 180 to put themselves into the QFs. Gotta give props to those teams for even putting USA in this position. But yes, this Olympics was quite the roller coaster ride and I’m sad USA didn’t meet the challenge.

Brazil would luck out and draw Japan in the quarters. I was hoping Argentina and Japan would draw each other so that at least one would make it through to the medal rounds.
Italy, Brazil, ROC and Poland are my picks for the favs to advance to the medal rounds. Any other wins would be considered upsets IMO.

Maybe Winzer can fire them up with a “choose to compete” speech. I fully believe this could be done faster than the Poland match. Canada needs a Miracle on Ice type event to beat the ROC.

Although, I think Argentina has a good chance to upset especially with the way Zaytsev has been playing. Do they go with Vettori? If Zaytsev is starting, I hope they do not hesitate to yank him if he doesn't produce well enough. Michieletto will be a huge x-factor. For Argentina, their passing unit was quite good against USA + their block/D and serving pulled through. If they replicate that against Italy, then they have it in them to make things wild. I also think France is one to watch. On paper, their ceiling isn't near Poland's. But they are probably one of the teams who are equipped to handle Poland's vicious serving and physicality. But Poland looks comfortable and I see them as a favorite in that matchup as well.
