Lucarelli coming up with some big swings, Japan is finding the right serving targets tho.

Going into this next, shorter quad, I hope we see consistency from the opposite position. I will happily welcome back Perrin as we’ll probably transition into a newer generation of players. Loeppky will need to be big for us moving forward and I know he will be. If this is the last time we see Sanders, Vigrass, Van Berkel, Bann, Hoag or whoever in Canadian jerseys, I will be thankful for their contributions to the men’s program and making us a top 10 team in the world year in and year out I think Loeppky’s getting too much put on his shoulders already - a bit like the Sharone treatment a couple years ago. People expect a ton from him before he’s even proven to be that guy. Let’s see what Loeppky has with more responsibility on his shoulders the next couple years, before we start to think he’s going to slide into the #1 OH role I agree we badly need a consistent oppo, but I’ll be extremely disappointed if that doesn’t turn out to be Sharone. I’m optimistic that a better setter connection could help a lot, Sharone is routinely under-set My biggest wish is that coach Hoag steps down (again). As you said about the older guys, nothing but love for him for his role growing this team, but man is Hoag a stale coach. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the best ball we played this quad was the short time Antiga was coach, The team was more fun to watch, and it looked like the boys were having more fun playing then as well

Brazil calls TO, up 20-18. Japan is getting opportunities, there are still areas to clean up for both teams tho.

Takahashi * 😂. He’s playing really well so far, passing dimes left and right and also getting some nice kills.

Japan gets absolutely nothing from their middles which is such a shame because they are passing so well

Brazil looking comfortable with their block and offense. They take set 1, 25-20. Japan’s middles need to step it up

I hope Takahashi develops well in the next year or two. Very solid fundamentally but to my (untrained) eye he lacks the pop in his swing that Nishida and Ishikawa have. But he’s young and Nishida was like that too before he decided to pop off in the past couple years

Considering his only big international experience before this is VNL, I am impressed with his level of play. Only 19 years old and still a college student yet playing against some of the best players in the world. His passing/defense is impressive, and not surprisingly since he trained as a libero at a younger age before he grew taller.
