Earlier we heard that spectators will be limited to 10,000 people. However, with the recent wave of Covid in Japan showing no sign of tapering off, the Olympic organizing committee is considering hosting the sporting events with no spectators at all: www.reuters.com/article/olympics-2020/update-4-olympics-tokyo-2020-head-says-wont-insist-on-spectators-at-all-costs-idUSL2N2OE03ATokyo Olympics organisers will not insist on allowing spectators “at all costs”, the head of the Games organising committee said on Friday, amid concerns about a fresh wave of COVID-19 infections three weeks before the sports extravaganza begins.A meeting will be held next week to decide on the no spectator option: english.kyodonews.net/news/2021/07/8e3b1c9fa01b-breaking-news-olympic-5-party-meeting-on-spectator-cap-could-be-held-july-8.htmlThe Japanese government and other organizers of the Tokyo Olympics plan to hold a meeting possibly next week to review the policy of capping the number of spectators at 10,000 per venue, officials close to the matter said Friday, as the capital continues to grapple with a resurgence of coronavirus infections. So what do you think? They are not going to float this possibilty unless they are seriously considering it (as in they have already decided that is the way to go, but they are now publicizing it to test the idea based on feedback).

I don't think its a terrible option... games or fans... I know which ones the athletes would pick.
I still think its strange they plan on having an opening ceremony... that seems like the most hypocritical thing

The almighty dollar will reign supreme while a bunch of people out themselves as hypocrites without a care in the world.

But whatever the case, I think its increasingly likely we won't be seeing spectators at the Olympics.

Good! no rowdy fans for HCA for Japan. It will be kind of funny to watch medal round matches particularly though. High stress matches with... zero crowd noise. Except the (mostly) annoying FIVB chants.

Except the (mostly) annoying FIVB chants. Japanese spectators aren't known to be "rowdy". They even clap politely for their opponents. English soccer fans on the other hand...
