Anouk leading the Olympics in digs? Don’t tell G2! Anouk also leading the Olympics in games played, except for Latvia, 4 ahead of Mariafe and 5 ahead of April who are the closest defenders. Her defense has improved a great deal over the past 4 years, but is still lousy, as demonstrated in the Brazil match where she was getting beat by shots that wouldn't fall against any other defender on a top team. Agreed. She’ll never be MHP but that’s the trade off you make when you put two bigs together. She has a lot more hitting range in side out and transition than a traditional defender. I actually think it makes more sense on the women’s side where rallies are longer and the ability to terminate from anywhere can make a big difference. Two of the three Tokyo medalists have defenders who have Olympic-caliber blocking experience.

Any links? My Sling TV Blue is not showing this match. Odd.

Amazing decision making by USA to serve the person everyone serves and have her hit in the net. Shut up Kevin Wong.

The first half of the second set was so incredibly dominant, it gave April and Alix plenty of room to make a couple of errors in the 2nd and still win by a comfortable margin.

Welp that was disappointing to say the least. Not a single good game after quarters. Hope the men’s final can make up for it!

So ATeam was 7-0 in this Olympics, only dropping a set to the Dutch team in pool play.
Alix finishes with the highest hitting percentage at 70%.
They definitely dominated in the semis and finals, scoring points early on that allowed them to have a few errors down the line.

Yep, between the Swiss and the Ateam and with so many events contested in artificial settings it seems like we will only see more of these teams. Even going back to the quarters, most of the blockers were lumbering indoor convert types

I think I speak for myself and @ Resident Bitchy Canadian Fan when I say, “why couldn’t MHPavs have gotten that version of Artacho in the quarters?!”. 😔

I think there was a noticeable shift this quad of serving blockers relentlessly and putting pressure on them to side out. As they are optioning more and as serving gets tougher, the ball control of the bigs is really being tested, both men’s and women’s. High risk high reward and can make or break a game. Im all for it. The pass has to be there!

I am so happy for Anouk and Joana! They played really well and kept their energy up in this match. Proud of also how far the Latvians got in the tournament. I definitely thought I would be seeing Agatha and Duda in the finals which I am still disappointed about so overall, it wasn't a very exciting medals match either way, but always exciting to see!

To be fair tho, A Team served much tougher than MHPavs do, so that def played a big part in their performance It really didn't. Mariafe just gave the match away, there was no way she was winning that match. Ateam is the only top team this Olympics that showed up and took care of business in every match. Consistency was their hallmark in their best stretch (after Alix learned to play and before this year) and its why they won here. Shame they were never pushed at all, but that isn't their fault
