Since they are doing a Male/Female combo for Tokyo I think Kawika + Foluke would be an inspired choice to lead Team USA into Olympic Stadium! I think USA chooses from among the team captains?

I think USA chooses from among the team captains? if they’re choosing from the team captains, it’d probably be Larson over Foluke and Smith/Sander/whoever the captain is over Kawika, but I agree Foluke would be an awesome choice as an extremely decorated 3x Olympian and a mother.

I think if they would have chosen a volleyball player at some point, it would have been Misty May or Kerri Walsh. I'm not sure who will be chosen. Someone like Katie Ledecky makes sense to me, but they've also had fencers and canoers and the like, and the last one (Phelps) was also a swimmer.

I’d bet the ranch it isn’t Larson or Ledecky.
Probably Biles and a basketball player.

I did a very quick search for 2016 and saw it was Phelps. Didn’t dive deep enough to see who it was for the closing ceremonies.

I nominate April Ross.
Jake Gibb could be it too. Phil Dalhausser too.

Allyson Felix will probably get the honor. Well deserved.

I would not expect a swimmer to be the flag bearer, but only because I think swimmers usually skip the opening ceremony because they are competing right away

Whoever it is, you can be guaranteed that NBC will have a 60 minute backstory queued up to play when they are doing interviews instead of showing events.

So, I stand corrected. Maybe the correct way to state it is, "If you're a swimmer who is selected as flag bearer, you go to opening ceremony. If not, you skip" Mostly.
