I understand the need to serve tough, but it feels like the US consistently makes more service errors than other countries even though they're serving super tough too. Is it coaching? I mean UCLA has the same problem I guess but with the national team staff and stuff we should not be making this many errors. Routinely give away 20+ per match.

Unfortunately without Russell nor a consistent Patch, you gotta live or die with that starting lineup (+ Stahl). As we’ve known, GM and Jaeschke don’t move the needle, and IMO, neither does Ensing. GM is steadying force. Not going win because of him but he can be enough to win matches in pool play to help earn a good seed. Except tonight, he didn’t do that at all. He didn’t pass well, didn’t defend well, and couldn’t kill a single ball in the front row.

Russia served better in the clutch. The SEs at the end of set 2 really stood out. Once at about 19, we made I think 4 or 5 service errors, so never had a chance to close out that set. Set 2 was a killer.

NBC is re-airing the match right now with Barnett and Sunderland's commentary. Might piggyback on that until Poland-Italy in 40 minutes.

Matt Anderson can’t find a kill late here transition sets were killer and matt's implosion at the end here was a problem.

NBC has a cool ad focusing on Erik Shoji and his heritage.

NBC cut to the start of the second set and Barnett literally predicted that one of the teams would have a serving meltdown during the second set...too bad it was us. Really wish NBC would show these matches live so we could get their commentary in real-time.

Wait... when has Patch ever been consistent? Unfortunately, “that’s the joke”. Yup, he’s never been consistent despite having flashes of being elite world-class.

Interesting. Barnett with the insight, says that TJ 'needs to work on his body language and communication with his team, as well as leaving one play behind and moving to the next.' But then Barnett added, 'he knows and he's working on it.'
This was at the end of the second set when Speraw called timeout during extra points. Apparently, TJ walked away from the huddle because of the missed serve and Speraw pulled him back.
This is why in an ideal world NBC airs these matches live ugh.
