Does anyone have a link to stats from the match? I thought Anderson wasn’t quite as dominant at OPP as he was two years ago. He looked like the answer to the question at opposite that USA has had since Clay got hurt… Having Russell would have meant being able to rest Sanders (and his ankle)for the big matches, with TJ giving way in key moments. Still think D.Smith over Averill and Jendryk was a mistake… I miss when USA middles float served, or hit a hybrid, that was a great change up to the jump top of the rest of the team. en.volleyballworld.com/volleyball/competitions/olympics-2020/schedule/11373/Anderson - 11-5-23 (.261) He hasn't been as dominant, sans the Brazil match. I think we could've and should've done more to rest him so he could be bigger in the Must-Win matches. I might be alone in this, but I don't want to see DeFalco and Russell passing together. I don't think that's either one of their strengths. I was hoping we would test Matt against Tunisia. Russell and DeFalco will be a formidible pair moving forward and both will only improve in all areas. Still young. I do not expect T Sander to continue National team. His body can't take it much anymore training and Playing 11 months.

This sucks but wow I can’t but help and think what good a little of consistency from the service line would have done for this team. Cause realistically we have the pieces and the players and so many of those sets we lost rested on deuce points and simple things. I don’t believe that we can’t compete or beat any of these teams but the chemistry was off the team lacked belief and looked lost when things started to awry. Really a bummer. Hey Paris isn’t so far off some of these guys should be back Shoji, Christenson and Anderson, Defalco and hopefully we can have a healthy russel and Sander by then. Middle needs some shuffling.
Honestly though these men are so talented and better at volleyball than I will ever be so grateful to be able to watch them do their thing. Good job guys not the outcome we wanted but you can’t win them all.

He’ll take next summer off for sure (as will vets across national teams) and get some down time then. He’s got another Olympics in him. And we should hope he does. His ability to attack out of the back row is incredible. We’ll see a new oppo, new middles, new back up setter, Russell/Defalco ++ on the left. Doesn’t seem like a lot to ask for

No one is going to get time off. This quad being shortened means its all hands on deck for the majors. Now the VNL, I don't want to see any of the starters playing in that tournament at all. Let all the young players play that tournament, win or lose.

I doubt it. Who will replace him?

Can someone remind me how Olympic qualification works? Is World Championships one path to a berth? And VNL is definitely debatable.

Shoji, T. Sander and A. Russell enough. The youth should be getting valuable time in the VNL. The team won't make the finals for a few editions but the trade off is to FINALLY HAVE SOME ACTUAL DEPTH ON THE BENCH. The World Championships does not qualify anyone to Paris. All of that happens during IOQT in 2023. The World Cup is no longer a qualifier.

Not sure if this idea is too outlandish but I was thinking of what Sander/DeFalco on the left and A. Russell on the right would look like for Paris. I'm not sure how much of a ceiling Ensing has, and Hanes is an unknown. Patch could theoretically come back into the picture but does he have the motivation to push through and gain more consistency? Who knows. Not even sure what Anderson will decide to do for the shortened Paris quad.

A lot will obviously depend on Coaches position though. If Speraw is back then no need for them to play. If there is a new coach then you need to start building relationships and familiarity.

Speraw didn’t make any adjustment and he brought guys just to be cheerleaders. He needs to go. Could replace Sheraw with Kiraly in your quote and it would still be true.

I would imagine the future is definitely uncertain for the team and the coach right now.

This sucks but wow I can’t but help and think what good a little of consistency from the service line would have done for this team. This is Team USA’s massive cultural issue on the staff side, using data driven narratives that back themselves into corners. “We have to serve x aggressive because without y out of system from our opponent we only score on serve z percentage.” We have no allowance for player development or adjustments, we are far too rigid with our expectations and the results suffer because we box our own system in.
