The only thing that can beat Egonu is Egonu herself from what I've seen.
I just want to see progress for the USA team. The match result itself is not that critical, but a good performance would be - especially one without JT. They need to start figuring things out.

how is JT doing? is an alternate coming in or? Alternates are not a thing anymore. Alternates could only replace an athlete before the competition began. Once the tournament starts, you roll with what you got. No one can replace someone on the roster, not even for injury. She posted on Instagram today that it was nothing too serious and she should be back on the court by the quarter finals. |

Given that we haven't played the Italian A team in three years and have not defended Egonu, she will score for them, but believe USA will be back to usual form with strong block and serve. Italy is beatable and Egonu cannot win this alone. Poulter is smart and will be back to her fine form by tonight. Justine is gonna have a hay day with reception, and USA will prevail in 4 or 5 sets. The poster who said that if MBH is off the whole team is off, may hold some water. There is a reason MBH has rec'd MVP awards, her contributions and presence have been invaluable. I hope she can up her intensity throughout the rest of these games. GO TEAM USA !!

Without JT I think it's a 3:1 loss to Italy today. Italy has a more powerful blocking front then Russia did and with Drew's having honed her skills in Japan against 6 ft tall middle blockers and thereby lacking any nuance and just trying to power through everybody I see her getting blocked many times.
With MBH currently error prone and a plus minus ratio right around zero there just isn't enough offensive power for the US to succeed.
Kim Hill on her worst day couldn't contribute less than what K-Rob has in her back up for MBH.
Russia won the battle at the net and also OOS swings versus our tips. I don't expect the shellacing that Russia gave us but Egonu is going to be enough to close out those final five points.
We are a long way from the finish line but once again Karch's roster choices may come back to haunt him

This match interests me because on one hand, USA can toss it (which I i get it, they absolutely won’t) and match up with Brazil. Or they can try and win, and if successful it’s a 50/50 chance to play either Korea or Serbia. Losing this match basically guarantees they won’t play Serbia
