Final comment for me. Overall the USA team was the most balanced team in the tournament. Many commenters here under-rated this team because it lacked the spectacular OHs like Boskovic and Egonu. But notably, those who select the OHs of the tournament picked Larson and MBH. What some people continue to not understand is that in the international game being an elite OH isn't just based on spectacular hitting but also in the ability to be an elite serve receive passer. The fact is that the USA offense was able to run effectively more consistently than any other team precisely because the USA combo of Larson-JWO-MBH was by far the best serve receive passing combo in the tournament. Those who are looking forward to seeing the next generation of OHs step in now and replace Larson and possibly MBH should be careful what they wish for. Their serve receive passing, leadership, and overall savvy play are going to be incredibly hard to replace. Great balanced team. Great win. Enjoy and savor it. Boskovic and Egonu don't play the same position as Larson or MBH

Looking at the Dream Team, Fe Garay was robbed IMO. She didn’t have a good gold medal match (largely due to the USA serving) but she was fabulous this tournament.

Yikes, Poulter on that TEAM is going to hurt some feelings! So happy for Gattaz too -- you go girl! Yes I wanted JWO for MVP, but for all Larson has given to Team USA over the years and her performance here - completely deserved. Poulter was the setter of the tournament for VNL too. And here she set 3-0 victories over China, Serbia, and Brazil in addition to (again) winning gold. Yikes, maybe those with hurt feelings are the ones who are not good judges of setting quality. Well said.....and to think she had a sprained ankle and comes back like that....wow

She did amazing. It’s like people forget she is still young and does not have a ton of international experience. She might develop into one of the best setters of all time. She has all the tools to be all world. Some thought she was the future for Paris and LA but honestly the covid delay made Tokyo possible for her. Others thought USA could never win gold with her setting. Someone on here pretty much said if she is the future setter for USA volleyball the new goal will be to just medal because we can take gold off the table. She proved a lot of people wrong.

The setting wasn't what put Brazil on the back foot.

imagine not being #PoulterGang from the get go Oh some where truly wanting USA to struggle because of the Poulter/Hancock selection. I wanted Poulter/Carlini because I also was afraid if Poulter went down in a big moment Hancock’s style was too different to come in and steady the team. I am not sure USA wins this gold medal without the Poulter injury. Down 2-1 Hancock guided the team over Italy ultimate being the difference between 1st and 4th in pool play. Would Carlini have done the same? We will never know. But Hancock did exactly what many said she could not do. Somehow Poulter came back stronger after the injury. Maybe it was knowing she had a more than capable back up if called upon.

Are the individual awards given based on stats?

So happy for this team. Larson and Foluke deserve this. I am so proud of Drews for coming in after Thompson’s injury. I’m just so happy.

Could Carli Lloyd have set this team to a gold medal? Just putting up hypotheticals.

I second the JWO for MVP comments. I really hope it happens. Just not sure they're going to. Not only her, but a major part of this run is Haleigh Washington's progression. So impressed with the both of them! Every part of our team was cooking. The new Olympians played off the confidence of our vets. Haleigh was a huge factor in set 3.
