Congrats to all the diehard fans that finally got to see USA win! I pretty much only dip in at Olympic time (for indoors) and maybe catch an occasional off-cycle match. Cannot only imagine what it has been like riding the highs and lows over the last 15 years. I certainly felt the overdue thrill after the previous 3 consecutive Olympic runs all ending in heartbreak.

lets also be honest, a field where Serbia had no Brankika, China had a badly injured ZT, Italy had no Zyllas, Brazil lost Tandara.... the US Had to win! the rest of the top teams did not have all their players healthy and available. Brankica has been poor all year. Terzic left Lazovic at home. China played without Zhu... Beat Italy. JLP's fault. Italy had Sylla. They were just bad. Brazil had Tandara. She wasn't good. Rosamaria was better. USA lost Thompson. USA lost Poulter. They overcame their difficulties. Others.. well.. that's on them Let's be honest: USA wasn't favored to win. We were always in the hunt but most of us had China and Italy at the top with Serbia just after them. A lot of things lined up nicely between teams not performing or losing players to injury. In the end USA played its best volleyball of the entire quad the last three matches to crush the teams. Especially Brazil.. such sweet revenge. I'll never forget 2012 and how shocking it was. At least we were competitive in that match. Brazil was downright shellshocked last night. The Keys: I'm still not over how well JWO played. Like get it girl! She should get a great offer professionally now! Even though Larson is/was obviously deserving... JWO was my MVP. Larson may have also played her best ball overall of her career. She just did all the little things incredibly well. A masterclass in ALL-AROUND play. Poulter was back to her old self after being sidelined. THIS was the Poulter I saw playing at the end of 2019. I think that little injury was the best thing to refocus her and get her back to being less predictable. MBH receiving the ball the way she did should propel her to another level, if she continues to play. She was a pivotal key to the teams success from the receiving line alone. I love how well Drews came on. She was an absolute baller, wow. The middles did just enough to get it done. We definitely weren't as dominant in the middle as we have been in the past. So much room for improvement there... especially with the passing #s.

I chuckled mildly to myself seeing how many Brazilians have commented on social media that their libero got robbed of the best libero award. Considering how JWO legitimately had a case for MVP consideration, that goes to show how wrong blind fanaticism can be.
Some of them also wanted Fe Garay to win best outside hitter as well. Um, she was TORCHED on serve receive for much of the match, and had many HEs. Watched a bit of their other matches in these Games, and Gabi seemed significantly more reliable.

JWO but wasn't that 4 touchrs? I thought the exact same thing, no one called it ? or did we see it wrong You might be seeing it right, but interpreting it wrong (just like the Brazilian team did in the moment). The ball contacting Akinradewo was correctly considered to be a block contact because she was close to the net and still reaching higher than the top of the net. Whether the ball would have hit her hands, head, foot, etc., if she is still reaching higher than the top of the net when the ball contacts her and her blocking motion hasnβt yet ended, then it doesnβt count as one of the three team contacts.

Man. Brazil really just sh*t the bed in an olympic final and badly. This is what happens when one team can't do anything right and the opposition can't do anything wrong. USA came alive in the elimination rounds. It's like something clicked and they just decided to be clinical. Their match vs. ROC was a wake up call. What a tournament! I enjoyed watching and chatting with you all during these Games. They were too short. I hope more of you will stick around for the seasons to come! Cheers! πΊπΈ πΊπΈ πΊπΈ π π π π

Brazil hasn't looked good all year, IMO. Their A team performance at VNL looked the same here at the Olympics. I'm sure people thought that Brazil had another level to go to, but just wasn't seeing it, not this year. The path for USA win seemed so clear to me.

I honestly think they played better in the VNL final. This is the worst Brazil has looked, maybe ever.....and that's saying something. They looked pretty lost in 2018 too. Ze just rode his golden generation for too long and there were apparently massive gaps in the pipeline he was trying to cover up. There is some exciting youth for Brazil in the gym now or about to be. We will see them return to decent form by the LA quad for sure. Paris? Maybe.
