I just realized there hasn't been a 3-0 sweep in the Olympic Gold Medal match since 1984 when China swept USA in Los Angeles. Brazil is the only team to go undefeated in the 12-team Olympic format (2008), Brazil dropped only a set. USA has more silver medals in Women's Volleyball than anyone else (3). Italy continues its streak of not making it past the Quarterfinals. South Korea, Netherlands, and South Korea again are two of the 'surprise' teams that probably weren't expected to make it to the Semifinals in the past 3 Olympics. I wonder who this could be in Paris 2024. Can Brazil go undefeated a second time? |

If USA wins Gold, Larson and Foluke (just like Ross, same years too, 2012 Silver / 2016 Bronze / 2020ne Gold) will complete for a set of Olympic Medals. Quite a feat. GO TEAM USA !! What a way it would be to go out too. I really hope they can get over the hump and finally get one, especially with some veterans / legends of the USA team that will likely retire after the olympics. |

I put this on our TV listings post in women's volleyball, but wanted to add it here both to inform and vent:
FYI, the women's gold-medal match tonight will be shown on USA Network. Per the NBC news release, NBC is going to pick it up but won't show it in its entirely.
The good news is it's the last Olympic volleyball we have to watch on NBC in these games.
NBC has shown a wonton disrespect for our sport in ways that are more insulting than can be imagined, from starting coverage of indoor and beach matches already in progress to extended commercial breaks during the action.

Meanwhile, I have never thought Brazil will be playing for the Gold.
Gabi, a 5'9 OH - who is a world class player, I mean... can you imagine?
And Carol Gattaz - your 40-yo MB...who, in her younger years, can't crack the Brazilian line up is playing for the Gold.
Still, USA has the advantage in almost all positions and should win the Gold Medal.
