I meant with the critics on this board. In an athletic department with great programs, volleyball is among the absolute best. He owns the Big 12, contends for a title nearly every year, has good kids. It’s impossible for his job to be any safer. If they fired Elliot, they’d be also firing 25 other coaches. ANY talk of his job being on the hot seat is insane. I couldn't have said it better.

I remember when we thought this thread was premature until Election Day. Then we tried to get people to hold off until Columbus Day, or even the start of conference play. I feel like only a year or two ago people were looking for scalps after Labor Day. Now we cannot even wait until opening day? Seriously, as of this minute, every coach in the country is undefeated in a pandemic. Nobody is on a hot seat for on court reasons yet. And if there are legitimate off court concerns that make them unfit for the job, then it shouldn't matter what they do on the court this season. There is going to be more than enough movement after the season to fill two jobs threads with lies, gossip and innuendo. So I'll make my annual Pollyanna plea to wait a minute... So can we please hold off on firing anyone for losing until they actually lose a conference match? Hey, now that you mention it, how many years are left on *your* contract?

Fire them all!!!

What is the half life on the respect that you get for winning a National Championship? You should check with Mike Sealy on that.

It is the collective results from multiple seasons put together to show a pattern of underperformance. I think it makes sense to have a 'hot seat' pre-season discussion of which programs to keep an eye on. Which coaches are fighting for their jobs this year? Obviously we're not firing anyone, we're just discussing who needs a bounce back year the most.

Has anyone mentioned Sealy yet? He's perennial hot seat material and with the talent he has in Westwood, expectations are running very high.

What about Matt Ulmer at Oregon? Not sure he was exactly on it, but if he was it may have got a bit cooler after what happened in the Spring. Let's see what happens in the Fall. Oregon boosters are probably looking for a top 4 in the Pac and at least one win in the NCAA tournament, maybe two.

What about Matt Ulmer at Oregon? Seriously? They’re ranked in the Top 15 and in 4 seasons he has 2 of the programs 6 Sweet 16 appearances and 1 of 2 Elite 8s…. Ever….

We talk about volleyball boosters like we talk about FB and MBB boosters. I don't think volleyball boosters carry that kind of weight, especially as the price to be at the table in FB and MBB keeps rising. I just don't think the ADs are paying attention to the boosters unless they are building gyms for the volleyball team.
