The Premier League (aka "Name That Tune")
What is it? A four-week "Name That Tune" league of rock/pop songs.
How many people are there in the league? 27 so far, with 6 on the Wait List. (Cap: 30)
When does it start? Monday, October 4, 2021
(The Premier League board itself opens: September 22, 2021)
How do you play? You're placed in one of three divisions of 10 players each (30 total). Each day from Monday to Thursday, you'll get 3 song snippets and you'll have to pick one (and only one) for your points. This is called the Pick-1-of-3 option. The harder the song, the more points you earn; the easier the song, the less points. You may request as many hints as you want but they will cost you points. On Fridays, you get Pick-1-of-6. On weekends, it's Pick-1-of-2.
The Easy snippet will be really easy. It has a very high probability (>90% chance) of having landed on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End chart. They fall in the so-easy-I'm-embarrassed-to-give-them-to-you category, e.g., "Yesterday" (The Beatles). I'm practically giving you the points. It's for the players who don't have a lot of time, lacking energy at the end of a long day, or just want a stress-free game. Constantly picking this snippet will land you on the bottom 33.33rd percentile in your division.
The Medium snippet won't be as easy but there's a 50-50 chance it landed on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End chart. If it didn't, you may still figure out the song if you get off your butt and look for it with some minor effort. This is for people who have some time in their busy day or want a little bit -- but not a lot -- of a challenge. Constantly picking this snippet will land you somewhere in the middle 33.33rd to 66.67th percentile in your division.
The Hard snippet has a very low probability (<10% chance) of having landed on the Billboard Hot 100 Year-End chart. It most likely landed on one of the lesser charts. I won't lie, it really is hard. This is for the people who want a real challenge, lotsa points, and to win this league. The Hard snippet allows me to put on my Satan hat without the guilt. Constantly picking this snippet (and guessing correctly) will land you somewhere in the upper 33.33rd percentile in your division.
Although you're given Pick-1-of-3 options and you're listening to 3 songs, you'll ultimately just pick one song as your official guess. So, you'll only have to do one song per day. No more.
