Good to hear about Henson cause I had heard she didn't have a good game against Pater/Gessner. It was a lopsided score. Thomas/Coakley crushed ASU's #1 pair as well in their only match against a quality team. Kok maybe is not mature enough to start despite her natural talent. Hopefully, Young or Karl can step in and start. Gonzales/Navais did beat Hamlett/Khmil so I was impressed with Pater/Gessner's win over that team. Pater really matches up well against ball control teams or teams with traditional blocker/defender players. It's really only split blockers or athletic defenders where she get's challenged. I was bummed the lower courts didn't have a better record but it's early. Sometimes when you pair an above average defender with a lower court blocker, the blocker starts getting served and they are just not used to that. This image from that match shows Henson’s hops. http://instagram.com/p/DBe2Q4FzNNs

Good to see Thomas/White beat UCLA’s Alden/Dodd today to win their pool and join the other top teams in the Relentless Challenge. 4 USC, 2 UCLA, CP’s Ferch/Lenahan and Beach’s Hagenah/Gementera. Will be a very tough bracket.

Get her running back and forth, diving, chasing dinks, cutties, etc. She thrives on hard driven balls that go right to her. Hard to win against her that way. Most teams will serve the defender but once she's gassed serve Hagenah.

They pulled it out. I got to watch this morning but left after White and Thomas won. Thomas will need to adjust playing the higher level teams some. They should have won the first one but didn’t. Simple stuff she can fix. White showed up solid as usual.
Wonder what’s everyone’s thoughts on White as a pro similar to Meg and switching to defender. I think she hits harder than Meg and close in defense when she has the chance. She would need a blocker with great hands to set perfect balls for her to crush. She is super fun to watch she does a great job with her partners. For her age she always seems to have nerves of steel even calming her past grad partners.

Solid showing by USC in the championship bracket. #1 seed Long Beach team had beaten Kraft/Kriz and Nourse/Seits to win the tournament last year. First time win as well for White over USC's Boyd in any pairing.

She's a very good setter which makes her a good partner for the undersized Thomas who needs the ball placed just right. Her defense needs work both in effort and technique. She does a lot of unnessessary one arm digs.

Probably as you mentioned, the sets were better and allowed Thomas to get up higher than I’ve ever seen her to power through or above blocks. Below is a cropping of a photo I took on my phone from the pier this morning. Really impressive showing from Thomas/White. Congrats to them and Henson/Coakley for beating the Bruins. In addition, Goellner/Pater won a good second set (21-13) against Boyd/Perez. Will type up my notes tomorrow. Could only see the four quarterfinal matches before rushing over to Carson to see USC’s women’s soccer beat UCLA to become the first Trojan team to win a regular season B1G championship.

UCLA We’ll see how pairs do at the Fall Pairs Championship, but I just haven’t seen TCU’s 2s and 3s being as dominant as the hype people are giving them. By the way, last year, USC sent experimental pairs to the Fall Pairs Championship. I could see the coaches sending our best pairs this year though. I appreciate the humor of putting UCLA as number 6, but we all know they are likely staying in the Top 3 all season. 😂 FYI, UCLA will be graduating Brennan, VanWinkle, Myszkowski, Smith. Maybe Bonanni, Moore, Hope depending on redshirts.
