Losing Oglivie is huge for Stanford.. I’m happy they made the third and fourth so close!

One more thing is Luper’s defense is outstanding today

That's a big part of why I was surprised. IN one match, he brought in Tufuga to replace Berty. I thought it was more for passing/floor defense than hitting. So did the announcer. Then in KY and another match, he brought in Berty as a back row sub. I still don't understand but I'm not at the practices. EXACTLY… it’s like she is the first person off the bench when he needs a body on the court but like NO! She is so slow and unathletic. I’m sorry but for real. Next thing you know she will be the back up setter. I am not at practice either but I would rather see kipp or the other outside/ds freshman from Texas out there. At a fan presser, Hambly said that Tillman was not ready to DS (and he didn't expect her to be this season, though he was very positive about next season). That's been a month but my guess is that it's still true. So then it's down to Tufuga, Kipp, or Berty. None of them have been that good at passing, though Kipp and Berty seem to have improved. (I haven't seen Tillman.) Either way, they aren't going to be someone you trust with passing or floor defense.

Meltdown caused by libero getting hit in the head and leaving the match. Sorry, teams like Stanford, Wisconsin, Texas, Nebraska, PSU do not get to use excuses when a player goes down that they don't have a competent backup ready to go

Wow, surprised UCLA won. I left with Stanford up by a few points midway through the third. I guess Stanford lost a player reading the posts.

That 5th set was painfully predictable offensively. Continually setting the left side over and over again when they were both struggling. Kipp could have used some sets, Campbell/Vicini, pipe sets. Anything. Did Baird and Francis forget that they could tool the block? Tip? Roll shot? High hands? Anything but continually trying to hit through it over and over again. I don't understand.
Don't even get me started on server receive/defense...
I sure hope Oglivie is ok, and that they can forget this match ever happened.

I just watched the end of the Wash/WSU match -- not knowing ahead of time how it ended -- hoping to see some well played volleyball that would make me feel better. It worked.

FWIW, looking at the UCLA players on the side lines, the uniforms definitely looked gray. On the floor, I sometimes saw a green tinge. I don't know if it was a trick of the eye (contrast with the Stanford cardinal/red), or the lighting or what. And their numbers are outlined in red.

Is red the new black? Maybe dark gray is the new black and red is the new white.

Shelby Martin has to be one of the most underrated and under radar setters in the country. She’s a chamaeleon!! No. How many of UCLA's matches have you watched this season? Just a few honestly and I’m not saying she’s one of the best setters but just underrated. Before the weekend she’s led UCLA within he top 20 teams for hitting efficiency, which will likely drop a bit after tonight. Her ability to come in and lead a new team this season and again last season at KSTATE is impressive.

Couple of things:
1) Have seen the UCLA uniforms in question in person several times. They are grey. 2) I'll never get over Hambly recruiting four setters in three years, but only two serviceable DS'.

I want to apologize to the people sitting next to me at Maples Pavilion today. I was so frustrated as sets 3 and 4 progressed I just couldn't control my mouth. That was one of the most painful losses I can remember, just knowing you would have swept the Bruins convincingly if Oglivie hadn't been injured. Basically Stanford went from one good back row defender and two decent ones to two decent ones and ? Time for this again because it sums up how I feel ...

Ok, the important topic of this match: UCLA uniforms.
The conclusion I can draw, is that some people are convinced they are gray, and others, like, me, are convinced there is a lot of green in them. Of course, gray covers a lot of ground for some people.
I sit pretty close, and I was seeing green. In the later sets without Oglivie, I was seeing even more green.
I spoke to UCLA assistant coach Eric. Oh, my. This is a TABOO subject!!! He is not allowed to give an opinion, guess, or any adjective regarding the color of the uniform. He turned even paler when I broached the subject. He says it is above his pay grade. Sounds very political to me.
Are they not allowed to use non-school colors? I have never heard anything like that.
I suppose calling them gray would be the safe, neutral play.
