UW will need to be a much better out-of-system machine if they're going to be out of system so much.

Great match! I hope WA keeps Bay at libero, because they really improved after she was there. However, what I see as the biggest problem for WA is that they nearly always set the pins. Rarely a set to the Middle at the middle front of the court or to the backrow hitter. Thus Washington State camped out on the pins and blocked them a ton! WA hitters hit hard, but good blocking teams can expect a pin set nearly every time. That needs to be worked on if WA wants to beat the top PAC teams.

They've played a fifth set worth of points. What is the NCAA record for most points in a set - in the 25 pt era? I know Georgia Tech beat Minnesota 48-46 in the 2004 Regional Semis but that was in the 30-point. Reading this thread brings back memories of 41-39 Oregon.

i feel like the perception of wsu is coded with sexism. people are not willing to have a female be that dominant. there are tons of male coaches that have similar reactions to plays yet no one ever calls them bitchy. had refs stumble way too long on a call that id question if they were even paying attention to the play, id be annoyed to. especially after grotes directional block was definitely a holding the ball. Well, if it helps, I am a female. In any case, it's not JUST Greeny. It's also the team of players. They linger longer against refs and argue longer/harsher. Their looks across the net to other teams and laughs when another team makes a mistake. Also, Greeny is much different than Beth from Utah. She is much more classy when she questions or debates a call. Greeny comes across as if she is almost threatening them and/or belittling the refs to intimidate them. If it also helps, I am also a female... (why does that matter??) and Greeny is a helluva coach. You clearly have no idea what it takes to be a Coug. They are the team in the PAC that must have a chip on their shoulder, and Greeny has a squad that has that. Given that she is an alum, good on her recruiting for getting players willing to fight just as she is because WSU does not get given ANYTHING (such as UW does in an "All-American" setter that is, in a personal opinion...meh...while Magda is left off the All-American roster in her sophomore season). There is no way that Greeny is even close to threatening or belitteling refs, so I'm sorry for you if you don't understand passion for a sport, but here is another list of coaches who are not only great historical coaches but also have been heated with refs and or been ejected (some even throwing chairs) ( also I apologize for any names misspelled)...Gregg Popovik Mike Krzyzewski Bill Belichick Nick Saban Bob Knight Mick Haley Jim McLaughlin... Greeny and the WSU staff clearly know what they are doing...#DownGoTheDawgs. Given the last few meetings by the Cougs and Dawgs, seems like we've met Keegan's kryptonite. And in all honesty, I'm cool with it... #GoCougs, Go Pukis, Go Timmer, Go Jehlarova, Go Williams, Go Tusa.... I can and will go on. Is it too early too say dark horse in the PAC? So excited about this win for the Cougs, especially after the loss of some HUGE players while UW returns everyone, seems like coaching seems to be shining in this moment. See yall next weekend.

For what it's worth, being a woman in no way prevents a person from being socialized into the idea that women should not be assertive. In fact, probably the opposite. Since the message is blasted at women by our society, being a woman probably makes one more likely to be socialized into internalizing that message.

It's going to be a long bus ride home. Do they always bus to Pullman? There was a 525pm flight. Though I guess they'd arrive at about the same time whether they bus'd or flew. Typically that trip is done via charter bus.

Watched a replay of set 4 last night -- nice job by the Dawgs to pull that one out. WSU had a lot of serve errors in that set, even factoring in there was nearly double the number of points in a typical set. Ironically, it was Pia Timmer's serving run in the 5th set that turned around a 4-0 deficit, and allowed the Cougs to Cruise to victory.

As someone who's watched little WSU volleyball, that last name definitely doesn't phonetically translate to English!

Congrats to the Cougs - they played great. I've been high on Greeny since she was hired.
Wish I could read the rest of what he said. (GoHuskies.com has cut way back on coach's quotes.)
Pretty much everyone, except Grote, has been struggling. Hoffman and Sanders haven't been the same since returning. Hoffman has had 15 hitting errors in the last two matches, versus 17 for the prior eight matches. Play Bush until she's healthy and swinging freely.
So many teams are loaded coming back this season, you can't afford to rest on your laurels.
We have found our new libero. She's a freshman, so shanked a few, but I liked what I saw.
