Leoniak is backing up Akana right now. The main reason, Akana is a lot more aggressive with her swings then Leoniak is. Right now, Robyn needs Mia Johnson to get healthy, and cleared to play, real soon. That way, when Riley Wagoner goes into an offensive slump, Robyn can turn to Mia Johnson. Right now, with Mia Johnson injured, there is no one Robyn can turn to for a replacement, at least up front. All Robyn can do is hope Riley Wagoner can work herself out of the offensive slump.

Aw... Out of all the 2021 recruits, I was most excited about her. The Ham and Westerberg subs were head scratchers. In the end might be for the best 5th year Annika and Leo will be pretty damn good. I guess. I'm predicting that 2024/2025 may be deeper NCAA tourney runs for Hawaii if they can develop some good passing six rotation players

Leo must be medically redshirting as well, there is no other explanation. Her serve alone would give big west teams fits and usc as well. Is she injured?

Right now Kiralyi is not even close to Igiede level of play. And the way Williams is playing right now, Kiralyi will most likely not see the court anytime soon.

Right now, she is just not as aggressive as Akana is, swinging wise. Robyn is looking for only aggressive swingers. She does not want timid hitters.

Exciting match. Fullerton is a great defensive team. I watched part of the Fullerton/Cal Poly match and they did a good job of digging up shot after shot. Wasn't sure how they would handle the larger Hawaii block, but did a nice job of moving the ball around. Crawford is fun to watch given that she is also a smaller player and really surprised by the Alailima. She just kept hitting the ball and might have surprised Hawaii.
Hawaii won and that's really all that mattered. Hawaii is not in the hunt for a seed or an at large, so it's important that they just win. Like others have said, Van Sickle is looking like the leading candidate for POY. UCSB is running a very diverse and balanced offense, which makes it hard to single out a player for individual awards. But still a lot of volleyball to be played before making any quick judgments.
A couple of issues I noticed with Hawaii. There needs to be better set selection from Lang. She's setting a varied offense, but she needs to watch where her hitters are. There were a few times I noticed that Wagoner made a move to dig a ball and was backing up after someone else picked it up. As Wagoner is resetting her approach, Lang is starting to set her, so she is rushing to the ball. I don't think Wagoner was able to put down the ball in those instances. Also, Hawaii started to serve much deeper in the final set, which handcuffed the Fullerton passers. I would like to see the team continue to press the opponents. Some of the service pressure was taken off during the 3rd and 4th set, so Hawaii needs to continue to be aggressive.
I am going to be interested to see how the coaching staff responds to teams with multiple players on offense. Hawaii contained Crawford for a while but didn't adjust to Alailima. Likewise, Lovett from Long Beach and Radakovic from Davis both had great matches against Hawaii. They are usually not the go to but both had a lot of kills and hit for a high percent. As noted, UCSB has a very balanced offense with a lot of players that can get kills, so it will be interesting to see Hawaii plan for that.

I say just throw Leo in there if she's willing and not injured. Let her get the experience. She can definitely bring some heat. Her 5 kills in one set vs Utah were convincing.

The thing I don't like about RAM is she doesn't say much. I wanna know why Leo and Kiraly were't playing. She does not have to say anything? She does not owe anyone the reason why. And If Leo IS injured, thats up to Leo to share. If she wants too.

Not a know it all. Just listen to what Robyn says. She wants her hitters to be aggressive swingers, not timid. What gets the Wahine in trouble is when their hitters start to become timid hitters. This is when Robyn gets completely frustrated with her players. Robyn knows when her hitters are aggressive things go well for the Wahine, but when the hitters become timid things can go quite badly for them.
