Time to assemble my stat counting crew. I'll make a VHS tape of this match, we'll huddle around a broken TV in a dark alley, and we're going to get this right. Bring your notepads. dont worry. i got you (for half of it) Now I just need to hunt down Hord's official numbers

Didn't see the game. How did Lexi do? Lexi Sun didn’t play, but looked pretty engaged every time I saw her. Lexi Rodriguez looked really good—excellent serving and defense, and decent serve receive (when they went her way, which didn’t seem to be that often).

Big win. Not the prettiest ball from either teams, but Nebraska really owned the first and fourth sets so that’s great. Batenhorst played really well tonight. Madi is just a different player this year. She may not be hitting the best numbers, but she’s definitely better. Also, Starck has to start for Penn State moving forward, she’s good Competition requires one to push your comfort zone. IDK, but suspect, Madi Kubik had push her game to a higher level to hold her starting role. Taking more hard shots from less than perfect sets being part of that.

I like Nicklin. As a floor leader and captain she had a lot of pressure on her in that game. We had three rookies on the floor at times and she settled in and had a great game. Yes some sets were off but we won on a good opponent's court. It was a big test for the Huskers and we emerged with some lessons learned and a win due in large part to Nicklin. I'd have Nicklin as my setter over anyone in D1 volleyball because she brings some great D, some blocking, and leadership to the court. She knows how to win and leads the way. Go Nick. GBR!

Well, she did right her own ship late in game three, but she was a liability for a good portion of match. She’s an extraordinary defender, competitor and leader but there’s no way if I had my pick of any Div 1 setter I’d pick her. I love her, happy to have her as a leader, but top choice of any setter in the country? No.

Re-watching as we speak, many of the early misses, she was in the “dime” area. Not sure why she was missing, but I’ll take a 3-1 road win in happy valley ANYTIME

Your are right. Thank you. I forgot to add her fire and right cross in celebrating - stay back a moment after a big play or Nicklin may connect and send you to the floor LOL. GBR!

I absolutely love her compete level and toughness. While she may not be my #1 choice to set a match for all the marbles, she’d be my first pick in a bar fight!

Bump+ I have linked this conversation with Russ Rose, John Cook and Lauren Cook-West before, but thought it was worth repeating on Penn State-Nebraska week. Russ Rose's lesson of the day. "Always have a dog that matches the pillow."
I remember watching this when it dropped, and it changed the way I felt about Penn State and Coach Rose. That's the beauty of podcasting, it's not lame like Facebook or Twitter, you get context and humor. I forgot how truly funny and charming Coach Rose is. Best regards to Penn State and their players/fans. *Edit to add: My favorite thing about Coach Rose is that he still teaches classes even though he doesn't have to. I really like him. So old school, and I really dig it.
