Today was about the bottom of the table and not the top.
Trentino sat everybody and handed Cisterna a win, which gave them 8th place and eliminated Verona and made Taranto's match outcome irrelevant.
Piacenza solidified 6th place and relegated Vibo Valentia with the win. Monza lost to Verona to finish in 7th, but Verona's win kept them safe from relegation.
There is still one more match between Milan and Lube scheduled for Wednesday, but it has no implications in standings/playoffs.

Lots of volleyball today, here's a recap
Perugia 3-0 Lube Perugia looked solid, and had a big 3rd set win to close out the sweep. Rychlicki (19 kills) and Leon (15 kills, 5 blocks, 2 aces) had great matches. Not enough production from Lube's pins.
Cisterna 3-0 Trentino Trentino rested some of their starters. Maar had a solid match, meanwhile Pinali was meh and Cavuto was only okay. Pretty abysmal passing from Trentino.
Verona 3-1 Monza Kyed Jensen had one of his best matches (18 kills, 3 aces, 2 blocks), and Mozic was Mozic. The Spirito sub worked well too. Monza tried a lot of things, but a bit messy.
Piacenza 3-0 Vibo Sad day for Vibo fans. It was close at times... but Mauricio/Basic combined for only 2 kills! And only 6 kills came out of the middle. Nishida had a few too many errors as well, but credit Piacenza's block. Lagumdzija had a solid match (11 kills, only one error, 3 blocks).
Modena 3-1 Padova Somewhat close match, but experience wins out. Ngapeth and opposite Leal each had double digit kills... but honestly the player of the match for me was Weber with 27 kills hitting .521 !! Takahashi passed a decent 54/38.
Milano 3-1 Taranto It was the pin hitters for Milano who shined today. Ishikawa and Jaeschke each had double digit kills, and Jaeschke was solid from the service line with 4 aces. We also saw Mosca playing and Patry playing middle. Fun to see the Japanese Fan Club supporting Ishikawa as well.

Modena has been messy enough that I definitely think it's possible, and also isn't Nimir not available? I swear I read that somewhere

Is Anderson injured? Saw that he didn’t start the game this week these matches basically mean nothing to Perugia since they already locked up the one seed. they might just be resting him.

Maybe he went home too since I think they’re about to have their second one Confirmed, Anderson is back in the US for the birth of his second child, he'll head back overseas when he's ready. SuperLega playoffs start this weekend, Perugia won't need him to get past Cisterna. Champions League semis start mid next week, they might be able to handle Trentino with Plotnytskyi starting

Took a look at some of the regular season stats right now... Can we talk about Mozic. If I'm doing the math right, his hitting percentage is 0.363 (404-110-809). Really impressive with the amount of swings he takes. For reference, Nimir is hitting around 0.367. Plus Mozic's blocking is quite good. Leon is crazy good (per usual) hitting 0.415 and 0.77 aces per set. Serving wise, Nishida wasn't far behind at 0.70 aces per set. Also, Jaeschke is at an impressive 0.366

Milano resting a lot of their starters against Lube I saw where Juantorena might leave for Qatar and not finish season for Lube. Simon is leaving Lube for Piacenza next year bbut almost the whole team is leaving there next year. Not sure where Matt Anderson will play next year as Perugia's owner went on his own to sign a Polish OH next year. Lots of guys wanting Asia next year.

Rossard is leaving Piacenza to go to Resovia.
Lucarelli has offers from Piacenza and ZAKSA.
I have heard Anderson might be headed to Skra.
Nishida is going back to Japan.
I am thinking Juantorena might head to Qatar after the Italian season to take part in the Emir and Qatar Cups. A lot of guys have done that, and it is a good payday.

Anyone know why Patry is playing middle against Taranto? It was never stated. Maybe for playing time? Trying something new since Romanò has been playing so well? Piano looked fine after they won, so I don't know why he wasn't on the floor. Patry was available again after covid, probably wanted to get him some time on the court... and it was stated that they wanted to rest Piano out of precaution. Also, Chinenyeze was rested due to muscle soreness. It'll be interesting to see what Milano can do against Modena, considering the status of Nimir (possibly out due to injury). We could see Leal at opposite again.

Nishida has returned to Japan as stated above. He will return to JTEKT and it was reported that this decision was made before Vibo's relegation. It'll be interesting since Miyaura might be one of the best Japanese opposites after Nishida, we'll see what happens there.
