Watched the Padova - Lube match today. Went about as expected. Nice to see Gabi Garcia Fernandez. Loeppky, Weber, and Bottolo are a fun trio for Padova.

I think Anderson and Holt will be the only USA guys starting today.

Thomas Jaeschke in his new team is who I am excited to see. They don't have a game this week though. He's a starter on all the scrimmages and mini tourneys Milano played that I've seen, and I like what I saw in his play so far.

Interesting, Salima commentating on the Piacenza/Ravenna match. Looks like she’s a mainstay

Monza beats Modena 3-1... wow. Monza got some good touches as the match went on and transition game got better. They also put a lot of pressure on Modena's first contact.

Week 1 Updates so far
Perugia 3-0 Top Volley Cisterna Anderson had 63% positive pass percentage! Pretty darn solid... Perugia's pin trio is exciting. Cisterna is interesting with Swarzc playing opposite but they don't really have the weapons + their passing was not looking too great!
Monza 3-1 Modena Match of the weekend! The differential in passing wasn't as large as it seemed, but Monza had a higher share of perfect passes. Monza seemed to have nice offensive balance and were getting enough touches to transition well. Modena certainly has their stars, but Ngapeth and Nimir weren't as efficient as they'd like.
Piacenza 3-1 Ravenna Piacenza's got some nice options on the pins, but this match was probably closer than they'd like. Passing for Ravenna got better as the match wore on, but Piacenza was able to squeak out the win.
Lube 3-0 Padova Lube swept, but the passing numbers didn't look too pretty for Juantorena. But, luckily for them, Padova's passing wasn't good either. I like Loeppky and Weber for Padova. Gabi Garcia Fernandez's numbers don't look that impressive but it was his debut. There's rumors that Padova is interested in Japanese OH Ran Takahashi, but I have no idea if it's true. Takahashi is still in University, so I'm unsure about the logistics. But, he could definitely help shore up the passing and as a Japan fan I'd be thrilled to see him in Italy.
Vibo Valentia 3-1 Taranto Of all the matches, I think Vibo Valentia played with the most fire and energy. The Brazilian trio was really fun to watch. Pretty nice debut for Nishida, and I think if he got more consistent with his serve, he could be one of the best servers in the world. Taranto's passing tho... yikes. And the stats have Vibo Valentia at 70% positive pass on the match! Both teams had their fair share of service errors. Will be interested to see how the termination / block + D look like for Vibo Valentia against the top teams but I like their energy.

I haven't watched all the matches yet, but I'll catch up within the week. Juantorena's passing is really bad on that game, but Padova had their fair share of reception issues also especially the libero. I agree that the Vibo vs Taranto played with the most fire and energy. Douglas attacks are just so good in that match - 71% (17/24), even on out of system plays. Still too many errors for Nishida, he's at 16pts with 12 errors but good debut still. The 3 straight service aces to end the match is a good highlight of his debut. I enjoyed the Brazillian trio the most, so far.

Interesting, Salima commentating on the Piacenza/Ravenna match. Looks like she’s a mainstay I am not a fan of her commentating to the point that I considered muting the match as a whole. There's something with her energy and delivery that feels off to me.

I am concerned with Aaron Russell. With the addition of Brizard, Piacenza needed to find another position for an Italian player. They chose that to be the OH position. Recine is in that spot, and they chose to put Rossard in ahead of Russell. Not sure if that is due to coming off of an injury, or if he is their guy for the time being.

Recine is in that spot, and they chose to put Rossard in ahead of Russell. Not sure if that is due to coming off of an injury, or if he is their guy for the time being. They will ride Recine "young hot hand" for as long as they can to make sure Aaron is stronger and healthier for the duration of the season. It almost ended in the 4th game when Tied at 24s they tried to put Russell in to close it out but ran out of subs. Whoops. Ravenna, with a young roster, was deer in headlights for most of the match until set 3 and 4. Right now Holt is healthy, playing at a high level and connecting really well with Brizard. Go with it. Holt has needed rest for the past 2 years in the league. So with Brizard(French) Setter Rossard (French OH) Lagumdzija (Turkish) Stern (Slovenia) Opposites Holt (USA) middle This lineup taps out the foreigner limits. When the team sits Holt.(or even Rossard)....which they will do often they will go with Cester, Hondo or Caneschi in the middles Then for sure you will see Russell. Bernardi is going to play the long game and he actually has the bench to do this.
