And I'll gladly eat crow. But my gap comment wasn't based on a single game, like OSU playing Wisconsin close. It's based on the season, and quality wins. If Nebraska beats Wisky, I think looking at the season, they belong in the top group. Pitt's lost twice in the past two weeks. They lost a set 25-9 against a third team. Texas still hasn't lost yet and has performed better against their two common opponents (6-1 in sets v. 6-4 for Pitt). Pitt hasn't swept anyone better than South Carolina, who's 4-6 in the SEC. BYU and Baylor are better than anybody Texas has faced this season, as are Pitt's two losses (GT and Louisville, both close matches)

You could do this exact same nit-picking with Texas. Has Pitt needed 5 sets to beat anyone as bad as Kansas? Pitt has 2 wins that are better than any of Texas's wins. And Pitt just took the #1 team to 5 sets (at Louisville), in a very close match. If Texas beats Baylor, I'll switch them.

Texas has only played a 5th set once, and Kansas is better than several teams Pitt has gone 5 with (Notre Dame, probably Rice). You're clearly just looking for reasons to denigrate an undefeated Texas.

At this point, I think I'd go:
1. Louisville 2. Texas 3. Wisconsin 4. Pittsburgh
Not sure beyond that. I loved how BYU looked against San Diego, though.

Maybe if it was just the one loss at Louisville. But Pitt also lost at home to Georgia Tech.

Maybe if it was just the one loss at Louisville. But Pitt also lost at home to Georgia Tech. Totally respect that. Personally, I would put Texas ahead as well. But there's an argument to be made that it's easier for Texas to not lose to teams they don't play and given that Pitt has two better wins, I think it's a subjective choice.

Not "looking for reasons." You don't have to look for better wins. You do have to look for set records against common opponents, or the parsing you did in your original post. Pitt has had more opportunities to lose to top teams than Texas has... substantially. I'm just not willing to penalize them too heavily yet, given their wins, for those 5-set losses to Louisville and GT.

Since this is for a separate thread, I'll leave it at this.
There are sound reasons to put Texas above Pitt! There are also sound reasons to put Pitt above Texas. I'm choosing the latter, right now.

Yeah, I definitely see the pro-Pitt side of the argument. It's just a matter of my personal weighting of criteria.
