this one should be a banger. really aggressive serving teams with physical pins and good blockers. two of the better setters as well.

Analysis time:

Setters: Looks pretty even. Miner might be able to locate a bit better, but that is probably offset by Pukis' experience in selecting the right hitter and fooling the block.

Outside hitters: Stanford gets the edge here mainly due to Francis' size vs Tusa. Timmer and Baird are pretty even.

OPP: Advantage Stanford. Kipp is an outstanding hitter and even better blocker. Ryan is good for a freshman and left handed, but probably a notch below Kipp

Middle Hitters: Advantage WSU. Magda is one the best middles in the nation and usually puts up huge blocking numbers. Williams can be very good offensively, but is inconsistent. Stanford's middles don't provide much offense, but their blocking is pretty good, although some of their numbers can be attributed to very large pin hitters.

L: Slight advantage Stanford.

DS: I think Stanford uses 2 vs 1 for WSU since Tusa and Timmer play all six rotations. Overall it looks like digs/set are about the same for both teams.

Serving: Looks pretty even, but all I have are the service errors and aces stats, which doesn't really tell the true story. Stanford attempts more difficult serves but commits a lot of errors in the process. WSU looks to be more conservative so that gives them a pretty good ace to error ratio.

Blocking: Slight edge to Stanford because of Tusa and the size of Stanford's pin hitters.

Back row D: See my comment under "DS".

Home Court: Definite plus to WSU -- Friday night on The Palouse. Stanford hasn't played that well on the road this season.

Experience: Advantage WSU

Desperation: Both teams need this win bad. Stanford blew two opportunities against UCLA and Oregon, so they need a make-up win against a good Pac-12 team somewhere on the road. WSU needs to hold serve at home.

Coaching: I'll call it even.

Baird had a great week against Utah/Colorado. Let's see if she can bring it against the Washington schools. They'll need her to be good especially out of system. In conference, Kipp is averaging 3.81 kps, .357 hitting %, and 1.29 blocks per set. Suffice to say she's been playing really well as of late.... more of that please!

Yes, Stanford has a better pin attack with Baird, Kipp, and Francis all having over 3 kills/set. Baird and Kipp are impressive with 3.8 kps each. 

Timmer is a huge threat (4.59 kps)  but WSU's other pins (Tusa & Ryan) are less so. But WSU gets more production from its middles than Stanford and isn't that far behind in team kps. It should be a good match. As hammer said, both teams need this win.

This could just be a fun match- lots of firepower between both teams. Kipp has been one of my favorite players to watch this season!
