Tamas pulls Conney when she serves but subs her back in after Bruder serves. Started in the 3d set against NU. Keeping her in after Bruder serves for her reinforces the notion we don’t have a better passer on the bench. |

Is this play-by-play announcer actually implying that you can choose what rotation you're in at a particular point in the set? One time I was watching the Illinois high school boys' state championship match. It was the largest division, like high schools 4,000+ students, and one team had by far the best player on the court -- an All-State, All-American middle who just absolutely dominated the match when he was in. Problem was: outside of him... not nearly as much talent as the other side. Every time the MH would substitute out when his rotation went backrow, the announcers would absolutely lose it. Like to the point of admonishing the coach for taking him out, saying things like "Here comes X team making a comeback and she won't even put X back into the match" and "I have no idea how you keep your All-American on the bench when the other team's closing in on the set." It was the most insane thing to listen to. How do you find two dudes who don't know that players have to rotate in volleyball to commentate a state championship match? |
